Casa das Canoas (1951) by Oscar Niemeyer
Built in 1951 in Rio de Janeiro, Casa das Canoas was Oscar Niemeyer’s own home and a defining work of Brazilian modernism. Designed to blend seamlessly with nature, the house follows the curves of the landscape, incorporating a massive rock into its layout.
With its open floor plan, glass walls, and fluid connection between indoors and outdoors, the house reflects Niemeyer’s belief that architecture should be organic and free. Casa das Canoas remains an iconic example of modern architecture in harmony with its surroundings.
