That *us* is key. God didn't tell *us* not for the 6th-century Judeans, he told *Jeremiah* not to.
But around 700 years later, the Apostle Paul does tell Christians to pray for all people, as you cited above from 1 Timothy 2:1, and we know that these instructions are applicable to us who believe even today.
I agree with your overall points about praying according to God's will and that sometimes it is not His will to bless a nation, and I think that God telling Jeremiah not to pray about something shows that God might tell us the same; there's precedent for it. Of course, God always means it for good. He wanted unrepentant Israel to turn back to Him, and He was willing to tolerate some discomfort in their lives to motivate them that way, if their hearts weren't already too hard. In 1 Corinthians 5 it talks about a man in the church who was engaged in egregious fornication (worse than even pagans normally did!) and Paul told them to "turn that person over to Satan" for the destruction of his flesh so that perhaps ultimately his spirit would be saved! It doesn't say, but I'm sure they prayed for that man even as they excommunicated him, and we read in 2nd Corinthians 2 that he did repent and was eligible for restoration into the church (and Paul had to tell them to restore him since they were unwilling to!) I've heard Christians say before that they were praying for God to "drop the rock" on somebody, figuratively, of course, meaning let them face some difficulties in their life so that they would repent and turn to God. While that is not necessarily praying for someone's material well-being, they are seeking that person's overall spiritual well-being, which is of greater importance. What good would it do to be the richest person in the world and still lose your soul and go to hell?

We're using #nostream for our NWC-only relay, and it does work, but also we're fighting an issue where our application loses contact with the relay, typically after 24+ hours up of uptime. (Note: I have no evidence that this is nostream's fault, could very well be something wrong we are doing on our end.)
When our app loses connection with the relay, we stop getting events from the relay, but can easily restore it just by restarting our relay-listening-script.... but we need to find a better solution.
At first our issues with #nostream were easily explained by various rate-limiting stuff that #nostream has in its default conf... but even after working through those issues, we're finding that it's hard to keep up a solid websocket connection with our relay for multiple days at a time. Seems like NIP-47 nostr:npub19hg5pj5qmd3teumh6ld7drfz49d65sw3n3d5jud8sgz27avkq5dqm7yv9p is maybe unusual because it requires a SERVER to have a LONG-LIVED connection with a relay... whereas typically relays are designed to talk to clients who probably won't be subscribing for more than a few hours at a time?
The problem is very likely in our code, we're using a lot of Ruby nostr stuff https://github.com/wilsonsilva/nostr -- and I think Ruby is just not great for long-lived event-based websocket stuff. So we're thinking of building a nodejs layer that intermediates between our Ruby app and the relay....... .. but in general, are most NWC server-side implementations using a particular relay implementation or settings?

One more thought - the one thing I'll say about him becoming a Christian: I think he's counted the cost. I think he has the intellectual integrity to not do it for clicks or do it 'half-way' -- I think he knows just exactly what it would cost him and, so far, he's not been willing to make that 'trade.' But I have to think, given his trajectory, it's nearly inevitable. If it does happen, I suspect he'll do it fully and without looking back.
