Subtropisch zwembad Mosaqua in Gulpen kan toch weer open. Mosaqua sloot begin dit jaar de deuren omdat de gemeente er geen geld meer in wilde steken vanwege de hoge kosten. Nu is er een nieuwe exploitant gevonden die een groot deel van de kosten op zich wil nemen.
Al sinds het faillissement is de curator op zoek geweest naar mogelijkheden voor een doorstart. Mosaqua trok meteen na de opening in 1992 zo'n 250.000 bezoekers per jaar en is voor veel mensen in de regio een bron van herinneringen.
Het Tilburgse sportbedrijf Optisport toonde zich geïnteresseerd in een overname, maar dat bedrijf wilde niet opdraaien voor de onroerendezaakbelasting (ozb) en de verzekeringskosten. Dus het zwembad zou gesloten blijven, want de gemeente hield voet bij stuk en wilde niet bijspringen.
Water bij de wijn
Nu zijn de twee partijen tot een compromis gekomen: Optisport betaalt de ozb, de gemeente de verzekeringen. De daarmee gemoeide bedragen vallen ongeveer tegen elkaar weg, schrijft L1 Nieuws.
Optisport deed als eerste water bij de wijn, zegt de gemeente. En het zou volgens Gulpen-Wittem "buitenproportioneel zijn als op basis van enkel verzekeringspremies de doorstart van zwembad Mosaqua niet zou doorgaan". Het huurcontract kan nu ondertekend worden.
Optisport is al begonnen met het werven van personeel. Het bedrijf wil Mosaqua rond 1 juni weer openen.
Belangrijk voor toerisme
Optisport krijgt jaarlijks 100.000 euro van de gemeente voor het beheer van het zwembad. De Ook de omliggende gemeenten Valkenburg aan de Geul en Vaals springen bij: die leggen elk 30.000 euro per jaar neer.
Gulpener Bierbrouwerij zal vijf jaar lang 10.000 euro bijdragen. Volgens directeur Jan-Paul Rutten is Mosaqua belangrijk voor het toerisme in Gulpen.
"Het trekt jongere gezinnen aan", zegt hij. "Dat is ook een belangrijke factor voor ons. Het is goed voor de werkgelegenheid, het trekt mensen naar het dorp."

Inval Heerhugowaard in verband met roof Roemeens goud uit Drents Museum
De politie heeft vanmorgen in verband met de roof van Roemeense kunstschatten uit het Drents Museum een bedrijfspand in Heerhugowaard doorzocht. Er is computerapparatuur in beslag genomen die nog bekeken en geanalyseerd moet worden. De geroofde kunstvoorwerpen zijn niet gevonden.
De daders maakten in het Drents Museum in Assen op 25 januari topstukken uit het Nationaal Historisch Museum in Boekarest buit: een gouden helm en drie gouden armbanden die tot het nationaal cultureel erfgoed behoren.
Al na een paar dagen werden in Heerhugowaard drie verdachten opgepakt: een vrouw en twee mannen. Op 20 februari en 15 april volgden nog twee aanhoudingen, één van een man uit dezelfde plaats en één van een man uit Alkmaar.
De opsporing van de gestolen voorwerpen heeft nog altijd prioriteit, zegt de politie.
De dieven maakten vier topstukken uit de expositie Dacia - rijk van goud en zilver buit:
