The second a company sees Nostr's roots in Bitcoin and the excessive BTC jizz, it'll drop further conversations.
Bitcoin isn't "cool", in fact outside of being an object for and of speculation, most people would rather keep a huge distance to it. xD The "crypto stigma" is very real.

I was hoping you could help run the data migration program, but you need to get a relay up and working smoothly.
We need to release Gutenberg, first, but Euler can't be released until it's full of open-access research papers and books. Which means scrape, process, reformat, upload, quality-control.

Nostr is a database with the data spread out thinly, eventually-consistent, and with n entry points and query interfaces.
It's a massive, universal data store with no bottleneck.

We may create our own test installations, to see how different environments impact the relays.
We'll need to think this through. The paper should have results that can be independently confirmed by repeating the test.

Uploading Exodus with strfry (thecitadel.nostr1.com) was 4:09, with realy (mleku.realy.com) was 3:36. Considering how decrepitly slow my CLI client is, that's a significant difference and indicative of a possible improvement in relay performance.

Second version (Euler) will display wiki pages, yes, as alternative-entries, instead of 30041s. We have to do that because it will focus on scientific research papers, so we need to allow the publishing npub to pull in resources from elsewhere.
Our own project documentation is in wiki pages, so that'll probably be the first test doc.
It won't have full wiki functionality, tho. It'll just display particular pages someone has tied into their publication, and the internal links will work.

Thank you for the clarification; ngl, that was needed. x)
My gripe is that there is a drive and stride to simplify the onboarding process and bring in more users as well as broaden the audience. But in the end, the only people attracted to this place here are bitcoiners - not even neccessarily because of the freedom tech...which I find unfortunate.
This has led Nostr to be a really well built platforms (little issues aside; Primal still can't post a note with ctrl/alt+enter for crying out loud xD) but only so little people using it - and should someone new join, they are quickly driven off.
I introduced two people to nostr. One of them is just somewhat lazy and not too big into SNS in general. The other one was a furry and got his ass bullied within 5 minutes of posting his artwork. Because they're a furry. And by whom? A Bitcoiner. xD
I literally can not invite people here from other fandoms or communities, simply because they will not have a room here. o.o

What Germans never learned is that the danger is less in political leanings, and more in totalitarianism. I.e. creating a government structure with which to impose your leanings unilaterally, with no opportunity for escape.
That is why it is ineffective to focus on political flavors and better to focus on shrinking government, capping and reigning its power, and maximumizing subsidiarity.
(Or imposing anarchy, but that's not my gig.)

A bingo card? Aight, here's mine:
- Google is rescued at the last minute and does not have to sell Chrome.
- Google panics and spins Android off into a whole separate entity.
- Apple's walled garden is fully broken by the EU.
- iOS jailbreaking picks back up to mark iDevices as EU-based to enable sideloading.
- Microsoft blunders a Windows 11 upgrade so hard, they end up pushing ESU back and thus pushing back the win10 EOL.
- OpenAI is caught in so many lawsuits, that the free-tier ChatGPT sub will be no more sooner or later. Gotta pay that compute!
- AMD will flub their GPU launch, as much hope as I have for cheap GPUs...I think Intel is the way to go. (Look at the RX 9070 leaks...)
- NVIDIA's 50 series will crack the 3k price tag. And AI bros will buy it in bulk still.
- Accessibility on Linux will still suck at the end of the year. (Screen magnifiers that dont work properly and a screen reader that's stuck in the past...)
- Rust in the Linux Kernel will finally show some good contribution, in the form that this debate finally slows down...somewhat. The LKML is hell. x)
- RISC-V will march on, RV24 will be ratified and become an even bigger player, bit by bit.
- China will make larger advances towards Taiwan amidst the US/China trade wars to take TSMC away from the states. It's an ultra strategic move, let's be real.
- The SAG-AFTA strike will finally end - but at what cost? The resulting anti-AI-usage contracts ought to be ... a sight.
- Germany's government will be stuck biting itself forever and not go past coalition talks for four months. We're about to have a political crisis here, period.
- The conflict between north and south Korea will reach a new level. Trump and Kim are not buddies, friend. o.o
- In general, Trump. If he doesn't fuck up a single thing in the whole of 2025 and just be a "boring moving president", I'd be shocked XD. Elephant in a porcelan shop - something's outta break.
- Nostr will see more wallet- and payment interop, some apps may start a subscription model like Primal's. Meanwhile, the rate of new users will slow down.
- BlueSky will keep chipping away at the Fediverse. Like it or not, it's been chosen as the new alternative now, and it's doing considerably well.
- The Fediverse will run into it's biggest bottleneck; instances and their storage. ICMI: Each instance stores all the posts and media it comes across - and storage costs money. Some bigger instances may falter.
Phew... think that's all... o.o

High 80s.
It'd technically be possible to pull them... but the compute to calc through it would be insane. Basically:
- Use fiatjaf/nak's --from and --untill
- Query a HUGE list of relays - possibly in parallel
- Feed the resulting JSON into a local database, use the ID as PK to avoid dupes. You may as well make both .content and .id unique...but that might stretch too far. So stick to .id, it's safer.
- Now, with all those events in, run text indexing on the database and finally: SELECT COUNT(id) FROM notes WHERE content LIKE "%bitcoin%" OR WHERE content LIKE "%btc %"; (obviously a rough sketch, but you get the idea).
Storing those notes is not the problem, <100GB would be my estimate, if you straight up filter kind 1 (-k 1). Probably less...
The compute of indexing is the harder part and might take a hot minute...or, multiple. o.o
So, yes, you can totally do it. Nostr do be open like that =)

Did you know that jQuery is ESM complaint...ish?
Yes, THAT jQuery. o.o
It still barfs into .prototype and stuff BUUUUUUUT it's actually complaint to the point where you can just import it O_o
I bet if you just made your own import-wrapper to import just the modules you want, it'd go down in size even more, and then just export that.
Im gawking at this like, "damn do they grow up fast..."

Kinda true, but also kinda not o.o It depends who you follow and how many of those people are very prominent - like hodl, odell, jack...
For instance, I don't know you, you don't know me. o.o
Not that it matters, but the decentralized and non-algorythmic nature of nostr also means that there is as much as you dont know as there is that you do know.

OH FUCKING FINALLY AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE RK3588!!!
https://radxa.com/products/orion/o6
Thank! Fucking! .... China, I guess? ANYWAY THIS IS SO HUGE!
I've been STUCK on this godforsaken RK3588 and the gap to the next biggest chip, the Ampere 32core, is humongous! Oh, dude, I swear I just techjizzed so hard holy shit :DDD This is exciting as hell. I am picking out a rack case for this thing ASAP and finding a big VRAM AMD GPU (ROCm is pretty good) and building my AI server off of that.
Dude, the hype, it's so real!
Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally!!!

I unironically enjoy it when cloud people scream in panic. (:
Kubernetes is pretty neat, but also annoying as fuck. It is, as far as I could figure out, the only way to span workloads across several nodes, using the same Docker containers that you'd use in compose.
So, this article made me chuckle. ^^

All good! But you were half-right; I am the student, and it is indeed my task. =) And mine alone, since I am the only blind student in the class - its the alternative to the "physical hacking", if you will.
> Metasploit is mostly used for a weaponization and exploitation stages
Duely noted! That is what I had known about it too. But, as said, it's been a good while since I last put my eyeballs on it. Last time I had brought it up - here on Nostr, no less - I was told that it was "outdated". o.o
The stated goal of this assignment is to:
- Find any kind of data that a mere student shouldn't be able to find.
Granted, I _am_ allowed to utilize the full arsenal of my knowledge in Linux, networking and therein. So the goal given to me in particular is to:
- Find any kind of attack vector that would allow exfiltration of data that I shouldn't be able to get.
The class is about stuff like the GDPR and friends - and since the handling of private/sensitive data also includes securing it, this is where I come in to play. Simply said, I am supposed to pentest our school and see how much damage I can do by just hooking up my laptop to their LAN.
Assume this rather generic scenario: Dude walks in and masquerades as a student, plugs into a LAN outlet (theres more than enough of those around) and starts to "do stuff". I am supposed to do that stuff, and this is why I am looking into prepping.
Thank you for the pointers and insights, I will keep those in mind! :)
If you've got more, I'd be more than happy to have'em =)

I am fully aware of that, and most definitively not a novice.
But the last time I dealt with this in a proper, non-theoretical way, was when Metasploit Framework was "the thing to use" - which it really isn't anymore, as far as I can tell.
So, I want to seek the proper alternatives. I have untill thursday to learn them, which is enough time to cover the basics, and probably more than enough for what I need.
This class assignment is rather basic, but I do want to deliver something - so, this is a great opportunity to learn those tools! ^^

Either way, I'm gonna hate it. A lot. x.x

#asknostr So this is a bit of a long one.
TL;DR: "Hacking" tools recommendations?
In the scope of data safety ("Datenschutz") class, my class is told to run around the school and discover things that they shouldn't be able to in regards to data safety and privacy. Since I am almost blind and running around like a numpty isn't exactly my kinda beer, I was instead told to "sit in a room with a laptop ;)"
So, I need tooling. The typical Parrot/Kali and nmap are a no-brainer. But what other tools do you know of that I could throw at this school network? The only restriction: I can NOT interfere with the daily activity. Sniffing and such is totally legit, but I can not bring it down - however, I _can_ bring it under my control.
Best-case scenario for me would be to just present the domain admin creds to my teacher. No further comment, just the creds. xD But it ain't that easy, let alone that easy to pull off within 90 minutes.
So, throw me some of that "good stuff" you know of. =)

NIPs are a software licensing regime, and now so many people want a license, that they keep raising the minimum standard required, in order to keep the price up.

Everyone is all hyped up about #AI , but all the software #devs in Germany, who specialize in it, are having trouble finding jobs.
I mean, all software developers are having trouble finding jobs, but they also.
