And people believed him*
Forgot that bit.
I think every decent person wants Ross to be free, but to actually believe a politician would do it, on day 1 no less, is naive.
Even from a math PoV, probabilities were it all pointed to this very scenario. Politicians tell many lies to get to a position of power, why would this be any different?
Only thing left to do is pressure, and kill heroes.

Wow, finished checking out #Umbrel #node after a few years.
Surprised to see how garbage it still is compared to other plug&play node stacks.
Dojo server is years out of date. That's right 🤢
Can't use LNbits with Core-Lightning.
In fact, pretty much no service at all can be used with Core-Lightning. 🤮
Many services are severely out of date. 😫
Umbrel is very likely putting its users into risk, and these are the sort of practices that made me leave it in the first place. Hugely disappointing, but at least the second chance was given. 😵💫
The UI is pretty and all, but functionally I can't even say it gives you is the bare minimum at this point... When you stack it against the competition, the bar is much, much higher than this.

A Russian friend recently got banned from Discord.
Good thing I had onboarded them onto our Matrix server.
Until Nostr is ready for such a demographic, It's the only way forward.
They can get back to business as usual:
- VoiP with friends.
- Screensharing while gaming.
- Able to engage with the wider internet by way of Matrix Spaces.
- Sharing gaming guides.
- Engage in gaming threads.
Anyone still using Discord is enabling censorship and loss of freedom of information.

Matrix 2.0 is a game-changer for the #Matrix eco-system.
It works.
It's fast.
It's secure (with refinements being made).
It's featureful - Now with native 1:1 and Group #VoiP (No more Jitsi).
The new auth service also supports upstream OpenID providers making authentication a breeze for new users - Perhaps #nostr could integrate somehow..
In the clip below, would be way faster on first login due to no device to verify and nothing to sync.

Path Of Exile 2 #POE is GOOD. It's already set the bar, but I suspect it'll do it again for the F2P market when it fully releases next year.
Lastly, runs OOTB on both Linux and Steam Deck. No tweaks, no issues - It just works.

From a networking perspevtibe this is very true, and aids confusion - The way I see protocols wrapped in protocols, ecash is a layer 3 regardless of its properties in relation to whichever protocols its wrapped under, i.e, as a Bitcoiner it matters whether I can trustlessly settle back on-chain, but from a networking and protocol perspective it's the relation between the protocols and how they intertwine that matters, i.e How can two languages interact for the same purpose, how does one carry the other.

Haven't had Arch break for me for 4 years now (last time I did a clean install).
Usually it'll only break if you do something to break it.
Also, Arch wiki is one of the best resources to keep at hand for anything Linux (many times relevant for other distros too).

I recognize there are many problems that can be streamlined when it comes to the onboarding experience in Nostr (across any kind of client, really), but I don't think full-on abstraction is the answer.
The best way to make things easier is through education.
We know "Nostr the protocol" - But we don't know "Nostr the ecosystem".
Possibly, the first step to get users to understand Nostr, is by focusing less on "Nostr the protocol", and more on "profile interoperability between apps".
Relays need to become first-class citizens in the experience.
The understanding that apps are talking the same language comes naturally then.
Even for normies, after watching these easy-to-follow demos for instance:
https://how-nostr-works.pages.dev/#/outbox
Do you truly feel like it's outside the grasp of the average user?
I feel like making relays into first-class citizens of the Nostr experience is the secret sauce, and it's like discord servers (but far more powerful) - Everyone knows they can get different kinds of experiences on each, and that each has its uses, and that their history is segregated between them, but can also be shared.
In the end, it's a matter of how we present Nostr.

How do people think they get all those personalized shopping lists and ads?
Checking your browser history and chaining cookies is just one of the very small vectors by which information is collected and put up for behavioral analysis.
A good example to pick at for this are the Alexa incidents - Curious of what she has to say about those...

If you're still using custodial services, you'll likely learn the hard-way why they're not scalable in a #Bitcoin world.
They function too much like banks. Banks function based on certificates which themselves create a chain of Trust all the way from the PoS terminals, to the bank's CA (yes, they don't tend to hold their keys, even central banks and leave it to a third-party company, I know this from experience).
The "fiat mind-set" is an actual real thing in that its way of doing things was allowed to ossify over the course of many decades.
Take custody, or else.
And yes, that goes for your #Lightning sats also - From experience in previous cycles, as the value of your sats goes up, we'll see Lightning further cement itself as a payments highway, and protocols like #Cashu (which is custodial, but slightly different in that it has a few things going for it that allow it to break the traditional problem of third-party custody), #ARK, and even self-hosted Lightning takeover the end-user experience.
Why do you think #Alby has chosen to move away from full custody services and into the self-custody space?
It was a business decision, and a damn good one.

While I don't disagree, DMs are an issue, it's important to keep in mind that's not a Nostr problem per se - That's a client implementation problem.
As much as x or y aren't a problem of Linux, they're a problem of their respective distributions - This to say, fragmentation is to be expected.
DMs are only a problem if we keep using and recommending the clients that do NOT keep up with the best standards - And it's up to users who are AWARE of this to make others aware.
For me, DMs stopped being a problem as soon as I switched from NIP-04 clients - I told everyone I'd onboarded - Most agreed and migrated as well (again, no real effort because Nostr 🤘), some understood but keep using said applications but not relying on their DM implementations.
Clients, and by extension their developers, are the ones at a loss.
The quicker we can all come to terms on this, the quicker we can make Nostr better for pretty much every form of medium out there, be it your Twitters, your Youtubes or your Telegrams. It can do it all, but we as users of this open protocol need to push and steer things in the right direction.

I think over time, users who both see the potential for Nostr communications, but also care about privacy and security, will migrate to clients that do keep up with the best NIPs/other standards.
Lack of NIP-44 DMs is exactly why I've never really touched Primal and cannot recommend it, or the others. I like noStrudel as an "overview" experience of Nostr, but see it much more as an experiment than a day-to-day client.

I think there's also a perspective worth evaluating whereby trying to explain unknown stuff, we over-complicate in the process.
In that regard, if we want to keep it as simple as possible, the explanation/comparison of Bitcoin to the Dollar and sats to the cents (or whichever fiat currency they are familiar with), is in that context an extremely easy one for a new user to grasp because it conjoins the familiar with the unknown.
And maybe, that's all we really need.
It just needs to be clear when a user is onboarded (Note, I don't think we need to SHOW the fiat value, just convey the comparison).
Also worth noting as Bitcoin's value rises, sats may also be less and less attainable - And I think that's where your thinking comes in of keeping to a singular name which is understandable - Keep it simple, whilst allowing expansion.
I think it'll be a wait and see game, because sats really did gain a lot of traction with the introduction of Lightning, and rightly so.
And personally I think all this will come very very naturally - Up until relatively recently, the bitcoin unit was very attainable by the average person. In the present, not so much, and yet we're seeing more and more adoption - A string being pulled in seemingly opposite directions. It'll work out in the end.

Just because there isn't a standard UTF-8 symbol (yet) doesn't mean ₿ is the correct answer either.
₿ is widely known to refer to Bitcoin, not sats.
You're, at this point in time, more prone to find someone that knows the symbol depicted below to mean sats, than ₿ - That's the current reality, that's how things evolved, for better or worse.
I think it's one of those "pick your battles" situations - Given how entrenched it is at this point, it's worth really asking yourself what has more worth - Fighting against this particular current, or putting energy into things that improve the current UX landscape.
Well-known sats symbol, as used in Snort.social:
