Playing D&D tonight with the gang. We use a combination of Discord, Foundry VTT, and sometimes D&D Beyond.
With the doggo needing extra attention, I'm setup with my laptop for the game, and then voice comes via Discord on my phone. Interesting to discover that the Discord mobile app also times out connections after awhile if the screen isn't kept on.

Yes. I agree with most of this. Though comparing ZBD to Primal is a bit different as ZBD existed prior to nostr and integrated in ways that made sense, doubly moreso in hindsight. Primal on the other hand is VC backed nostr from the get go, but attempting to use caching for scaling purposes in a way that breaks the experience. The similarities between ZBD and Primal can be summarized as both operating as a centralized silo.
As to Damus, Ive never used it but i get the impression that feature additions may have stopped or at least slowed considerably with notedeck under development. One thing I hope for Damus is that which I'd still like to see in Amethyst... robust list support. Though perhaps im overestimating the benefits of crowd driven organization and structure.

Of those listed, the substantial increase in bandwidth taking in kmowledge from computers is enticing, but a double edged sword. You'd only know what was available via computers, you'd be much like others of the same, and your information/memories could not be hidden. Passwords are virtually useless without ties to real world elements, and even then at huge risk.
Because of the above, i'd go with the VR integration, or...
A variation on the bandwidth to computers that is locked down to an off network system that i only get the benefits of downloading when physically there. sneakernet it all.

I live in an area where supplementing with vitamin d for a few of the winter months is essential to avoid deficiencies. The alternatives are changing diet to take in more fish, but i generally dont eat fish every day. Or i could fly south for the winter. Cost tradeoffs.

There's plenty of approaches to do things inconsistently. The effectiveness will vary, but wont necessarily improve on what Primal is doing.
Primal's approach is a tradeoff to improve some aspects while using the app, in exchange for missing data that it hasnt cached, and allowing more centralized metrics gathering on whats been viewed. It's a silod platform and there should be little expectation of it letting users see all the relevant nostr data that they would potentially see with other nostr apps.
If its important for users to see all posts, replies, and zaps then I would not recommend a caching platform like Primal. It's more akin to Facebook or Twitter but attempting to be eventually consistent on a single pass of relays where there are no QoS contracts or guarantees in place. Indeed, relay operators for which Primal reads from for its cache should consider fee for access if they arent already. This is a bit similar to google and indexing and serving content from news outlets

Primal only reads from their cache, and this just shows that their cache is missing data or reporting stale info.
There's nothing you can do in this case as a user. It's just a flaw in their model that requires more centralization to resolve completely.

I really appreciate this feature from noStrudel letting me know the status of a post to each of my configured relays. It would be cool if more clients supported something like this (including Corny Chat), as well as perhaps a queue with retry support for those that timed out or experienced some temporal error.

Over the past few weeks, some new enhancements and bugfixes have been applied to Corny Chat!
🌟 Image uploads restricted to nostr users
🔸 The integration of image uploads currently uses nostr.build, which recently made changes disallowing anonymous uploads
🔸 The file upload operations will only be shown to users that have it enabled in settings, and are using a nip07 extension
🔸 This affects the room chat, profile pic and banner, as well as room settings for logo, background and uploading slides
🌟 GIF search support using lemon's GifBuddy.lol
🔸 This new feature allows users to search gif images matching a provided phrase
🔸 From the room chat, start a command /gif followed by the phrase to search
🔸 One page of results will be displayed up to 30 images
🔸 Clicking an image will insert the link into the text chat and close the dialog
🌟 More improvements to Custom Emoji support
🔸 Custom emojis are now recognized and rendered for kinds 0, 1, and 1311
🔸 This means short codes can be included in room chat, and user profiles in the name and about sections
🔸 In addition, notes that include emoji codes will render them as images
🔸 Posting new notes or text chat that includes short codes will automatically include the appropriate emoji tag based on your favorited emoji packs

I usually recommend older refurbished thinkpads, dell, or system76. For transitioning from windows look and feel a good visual os like Ubuntu or PopOS from system76 would work well. Both are easy installs following guidance on their respective sites for downloading and etching an image to a usb flash drive for the initial bootup.

i think in the US this narrows down to north/central cold zone. outside of cities like chicago, indianapolis, minneapolis to avoid demographic crime issues. i recommend looking into Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa or the Dakotas
