I think we need to find a solution to automatically move, at least once, if a group gets banned from a relay. Based on the user interviews we have been doing this is a huge concern for stewards of Facebook groups and other big tech platform. Many of them have had their groups shut down before with no explanation and no recourse. Being able to give them an answer like “on Nostr the relay can boot you off but generally all your groups members will move over to your back just fine” would be a big sell.
Having a backup relay that you hit when the main relay is down or your group data disappears doesn’t seem like it’s too much to ask. Like on app launch if you can’t refresh data from the main relay grab the kind 39000 from the backup relay, see if it still has the main relay listed as the main relay. If it does, great, it must just be an outage. But if an admin has updated the metadata to indicate a new main relay you can just update your local group state to point to the new relay. The user doesn’t necessarily even need to know it has happened.

I guess I thought NIP-29 left the door open to multi-relay groups, but rereading it I see that it doesn’t really. It says “fork the group so it exists in different forms -- still using the same id -- across different relays”.
Still I think having backup relays or something seems necessary to deliver on the Nostr promise of being able to take your people and data and go to another server.

What even is the gossip model in a NIP-29 context? Is it important? It seems like idea of a user-defined relay list is somewhat moot. The group needs to more or less say "we're using this relays" and unless you want to migrate or fork the group you maybe only need to read from one and publish to all of them? I finally had a good long session with Goose, after switching to OpenRouter to get around rate limits. I was able to do an hour long session evaluating the code quality of a bunch of different repositories and comparing their architecture and the libraries they use. I like that it could pull code samples out of the repos to prove/illustrate the points it was making, which felt like a decent guard against hallucinations.

I’ve tried using Goose for a few tasks, but any time I ask it to do some significant work like read a pdf or write some code I get a TPM rate limit error. I’ve tried OpenAI models (4o-mini has the highest TPM limit) and Claude Sonnet. Is there some workaround for this?

I’ve been using the Bartender app on Mac to hide some menubar items for years. It’s all more the necessary these days on the MacbookPros with the notch in the top that just makes some of your menubar inaccessible if you have too many items.

Here’s my latest 3d print - a hanger for my headphones on the back of my desk. It keeps them tucked out of sight but I can still lean forward and grab them when I need to.

I think I need to adjust the design to make the headphones sit a little higher because right now the rubber piece where the cord comes out of the bottom is bending as the weight of the headphones presses down on them. I have been getting by in TinkerCad but it might be time for me to learn how to use a real 3D modeling tool. Any recommendations on resources/videos for that?

It would be interesting for someone with knowledge of these things compare how Spotify handled things to how Epic Games did. Because Epic Games tried the same thing in US court a couple times and failed. Others have tried too. It’s unclear to me if Spotify made different strategic decisions than Epic or if they just had a better time because of the jurisdiction and timing.

I’ve been on a bit of a break from Nostr for the last few months. We’ve been very busy at nos.social so it fell off my work checklist and personally I just haven’t had any interest/energy for microblogging lately. But I’m feeling ready to jump back in.
I have to say one of the more exciting tech things for me recently has been AI actually getting really useful for development work. Between Cursor and Warp I’m saving a lot of time on simple and medium-complexity tasks. It helps that I’ve been experimenting with a lot of unfamiliar tech.

🤔 Now that you mention it I don’t think I’ve ever created a team from scratch in App Store Connect. I just had to do it for Google Play and it was a heavy process. They needed to verify that we were a real corporation. Maybe Apple is the same way so they don’t have an easy create button.

I think it’s more about trust and dependency on a middleman than fear of censorship. It’s abstract at scuttlebutt’s scale but the idea is that we can only avoid a capitalist enterprise enclosing and extracting value out of our open network if the system is not dependent on them. And I’m not convinced that’s wrong. But maybe it is too big of a step forward. Nostr is much more practical.
