I'm also a migrant. Most of us in the thread are, actually, in one way or another.
But, it's like you say, a handful of American's moving to your neighborhood makes for better burgers, cooler digital projects, a world-class basketball team, and livelier church music. A million Americans moving to your neighborhood is just an invasion and will turn you into America del Oste. (I mean, Germany is essentially occupied by Americans, so that's not mere conjecture.)

My wife has DB1. It took her only few months to understand the logic of low carb. But she (and I) lacked to conviction. But lately she came back to it on her own. Because she was seeing the consequences of high-carb diet. She was unable to manage glucose levels, alway over or undershooting the target.
Now she’s in two weeks back in low carb - most of the time basically a full scale carnivore… and she’s been 100% in target, glucose making basically no movement at all.
My point being - you can bring a horse to the water, but cannot force it to drink it. Keep telling her. She will remember when the right time comes. 🫡
