มันทำให้เราไม่สามารถผ่อนคลายมากพอที่จะนอนหลับได้ เราก็เลยนอนตาค้างอยู่แบบนั้นทั้งคืนจนถึงเช้าวันถัดมา

ในสถานการณ์ทำนองนี้ หลายคนจะพยายามพูดกับตัวเอง (ในระหว่างที่กำลังนอนตาค้างอยู่) ว่า “ฉันรู้ว่าฉันอยากนำเสนองานให้ดีกว่านี้ แต่เหตุการณ์นั้นมันผ่านไปแล้วนะ ตอนนี้มันถึงเวลานอนแล้ว ฉันควรจะนอนก่อน ส่วนเรื่องที่จะถอดบทเรียนจากการนำเสนอในวันนี้…เดี๋ยวค่อยว่ากันทีหลังนะ”

หลายคนพยายามพูดกับตัวเองแบบนี้เพราะพวกเขาหวังว่ามันจะช่วยให้ใจพวกเขาผ่อนคลายลงและทำให้พวกเขานอนหลับได้ง่ายขึ้น

แนวทางที่ว่านี้ก็คือ แทนที่พวกเขาจะนอนตาค้างอยู่บนเตียงและพยายามพูดกล่อมใจตัวเองให้ผ่อนคลาย ผมขอเสนอให้พวกเขาลุกออกจากเตียงและทำอะไรบางอย่างเล็กๆน้อยๆที่ช่วยสร้างความผ่อนคลายให้เกิดขึ้นกับร่างกายของพวกเขาแทน (เช่น ยืดเหยียดคลายกล้ามเนื้อ)
