As a training engineer, I feel a duty to maintain the things I build. I feel a duty to release things I know are the best quality and safety I can achieve. Just vibe coding a bunch of shit I don't understand and letting people use it would violate engineering ethics (in my opinion).
That's my primary opinion on the difference between engineers and vibers. I want to be an engineer.
I'm not saying vibing has no place, I just don't take any of it seriously. I'll try some of it out as a proof of concept (like a prototype) if it's interesting, but that's it for me. There are some cool creations out there.
I don't buy into the hype that software engineers will be replaced by vibe coders though. What scares me is that these things will be released to average users who have no idea that it was just slapped together and released. Especially when private keys and other critical data is involved. We've always had risk in software, I just think it's dumb to massively ramp up the risk and take pride in doing so.
