I’m just a pleb. I have no right to have an opinion aside from the fact that I run a node. Seems pretty straight forward that limiting data beyond monetary transaction data is wise. I’m not technical but it seems like the potential for foul play inside of the crap people want to append to transactions is high. The whole point of this is to change the money… not to create another distributed database. That’s all.

Even Mechanic points out this is not ideal. The core devs love this. When it was brought up during the panel they all enthusiastically agreed that people who don't like this should run knots. This outcome is a win for them because then they make their shitcoiner friends happy and they know the majority of nodes, including the big economic players (exchanges and such), will continue to run core. The fight needs to be for core, but I will switch to knots as well if that's what it comes down to.

Yesterday, I wanted to confirm that "Gambling Device" by Frank Herbert, was the short story I remembered about a hotel that forbade gambling. So I asked Claude and ChatGPT for summaries. They so confidently made stuff up, I assumed I misremembered.
Thankfully, archive.org lent me a collection containing the short story, which I quickly reread. It was, of course, the story I recalled, not the stories Claude or ChatGPT had hallucinated.
