so, i had really written the full scanning thing wrong, didn't need to be keeping track of the events that were already indexed...
they now index when being saved, and because this disrupts the import function, it now buffers the upload in a temp file and then lets the http client finish and disconnect, as it was stalling due to the extra delay from the time it takes to build the indexes
further, the rescan admin function now also regenerates these indexes as well, so, just gotta eat me some lunch, then i need to revise the delete/replace code to remove the indexes when events are removed, and finally get to the last step of the task, implementing the search
in other news, my double vision/convergence problem at close distance is definitely reducing slowly, i can now actually read small text but it's just a bit doubled if i am looking at text more less than about 50cm from my eyes. the glasses help me read easier but i feel like it's just a matter of continuing the potassium/calcium/magnesium and probably continuing to dial back the alcohol consumption to basically none. i think my kidneys are still weak and the alcohol is slowing the recovery. and incidentally i'm getting a lot more work done.

I would say though that looking at things in USD terms gives you a false sense of security.
How about looking at the chart in terms of %% of Bitcoins mined already?
* The first 100 blocks issued 5000BTC protecting 0 spendable BTC. Total overkill regardless of the monetary value of these BTC.
* The last 100 blocks issued 312.5BTC protecting 19863109BTC. With fees it's the same order of magnitude as fees are 2 orders of magnitude less than issuance right now. This is probably an all time low even though the value it is supposed to protect is at an all time high.

Mempool consistency is a sign of node operators agreeing on policy but treating policy like consensus - forcing all to run the same policy is bad.
Should miners use policy to fight spam - against their financial interest - and other node runners not enforce policy to get everything relayed that is consensus compatible to improve mining decentralization?

Fees have exceeded the block reward only for few blocks during the most extreme fee events but over a day, fees peaked at 60% of the Security Budget with prior peaks of 40% several halfings ago.

Layer 2 protocols can afford to pay much higher fees per Byte for their Layer 1 needs but at this point, who even cares using L2 when L1 is dirt cheap?
Do we need spammers to increase the security budget? I think non-financial protocols could fill that gap for a while but in the past, these "protocols" often were intentionally disruptive or even openly hostile against Bitcoin, scheduling "mints" such that fees spiked which only disrupts the monetary use of Bitcoin. And that's only the fee part of these "protocols" as they bloat the UTXO set, too.

there is two ways that controversy surrounds a person:

since it has involved his computer being hacked i question the likelihood of it being 1.
i'm also a black sheep in my dev community as well and i'm basically shadowbanned from visibility even though i have had many valid points of criticism of the establishment, so i'm inclined to believe that the core devs are a bunch of sheep who are letting the wolves run wild on the backs of the users

“Not possible to avoid” is a fairytale created by the companies to lessen their responsibilities. Was it hard to research the space for such lessons and learn from them? I am fully aware of what can and cannot be done, and that is why I am very critical of any company that takes their customers’ trust lightly or for granted. If the core of the business is to maintain a balance sheet of financial records, and you take your customers’ money without ensuring that the record is safe and accurate, you should not be in that business, period!

Apologies for being unclear, I am not criticizing *individuals* at coins, but all the *companies* that demonstrate reckless behavior towards their customers’ data and funds. More criticism toward companies (small or big) for not performing basic due diligence towards their customers. I am sure if that was some other famous company, people would get their pitchforks and fires out, and be all over them. If it’s a massive undertaking, then take it with a massive responsibility or stay out of that business.
