Mostly because I loved Beckett as a teen. And I still like Beckett now. Beckett is funnier. Harpman is more serious in her tone.
I think the book is dealing with what I think of as "the prison of gender" and how it gets in the way of so many things, how it can make people incomplete and helpless.
If I were to give feedback on it as a story I think it could have used some humor. The main character is a real philosopher, ambitious, youthful. Did she ever learn to laugh at herself?
