Ricardo Ferreira Barollo, 49, was convicted by the Jury Court of Campina Grande do Sul, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, on Thursday (22nd), for the murder of the student couple Bernardo Dayrell Pedroso and Renata Waechter Ferreira in 2009, during a dispute within a neo-Nazi group. Barollo was sentenced to 48 years and 9 months in prison for double homicide, which is a motiveless and unexpected crime. The arrest warrant was executed immediately after the trial. Barollo's lawyer, Adriano Bretas, told the report on Friday (23rd) that he will appeal the decision and seek a new trial. Without providing details, Bretas said there is 'contradiction in the evidence presented in the process.' The defendant claims he did not commit the crime. Barollo was accused by the Public Ministry of being the mastermind behind the murder of the couple, who were shot to death on the night of April 21, 2009. Bernardo was 24 years old; Renata was 21. They were university students and had been in a relationship for a year and a half. In March, two other people involved in the crime were also convicted: João Guilherme Correa (sentenced to 35 years, 2 months, and 15 days in prison) and Jairo Macial Fischer (sentenced to 32 years, 3 months, and 15 days in prison). The defense of the duo claimed they acted on Barollo's orders, who threatened them. João and Jairo were considered responsible for firing the shots that killed the couple. In March, two other people accused of helping with the plan and execution of the murders were acquitted. According to the Public Ministry, Barollo, who lived in São Paulo, first called Jairo and ordered him to go to Curitiba and kill Bernardo. The plan was to take advantage of Bernardo's presence at a party that was to take place at a farmhouse in Campina Grande do Sul on April 20, 2009. The date of the party was a reference to the birth of the German dictator Adolf Hitler (1889-1945). According to the investigation, Barollo was the leader of a neo-Nazi movement and began to see Bernardo as a threat to his leadership within the group. The couple was shot to death on the highway, on the BR-116, between Curitiba and Campina Grande do Sul.
