Brazil's President Lula (PT) chose Carlos Pires Brandรฃo, a judge from the 1st Federal Regional Court, on Tuesday (27) for one of the two vacant seats on the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). Brandรฃo is backed by STF (Supreme Court) Minister Kassio Nunes Marques and Piauรญ Governor Rafael Fonteles (PT). He was chosen seven months after the STJ compiled two lists of three names for the President to select two from, who will then be vetted by the Senate. In addition to the selected judge, the list of candidates from the Federal Regional Courts included Daniele Maranhรฃo, also from the 1st Federal Regional Court in Brasรญlia, and Marisa Santos from the 3rd Federal Regional Court in Sรฃo Paulo. The two seats became vacant with the retirement of two judges, Laurita Vaz in October 2023 and Assusete Magalhรฃes in January last year. Lula had to choose a name from the list between magistrates who are part of one of the six Federal Regional Courts in the country and another from the Ministry of Public Prosecution. Lula has already appointed three other ministers to the court in his third term: lawyer Daniela Teixeira and judges Afrรขnio Vilela and Teodoro Santos.

Two pigeons invaded the cabin of Delta Air Lines flight DL2348, delaying its departure from Minneapolis to Madison, USA, on Saturday (24). During boarding, a passenger alerted a flight attendant to the presence of a pigeon in the cabin. A Delta baggage handler was able to remove the bird safely, just in time for the plane to leave the gate on schedule. However, after the plane left the gate, a second pigeon appeared, flying around the cabin. Passengers tried to capture it with a coat, but failed. The pilot then returned to the gate, where the pigeon was removed by the same handler. Passengers filmed the scene, including the attempts to capture it, and the footage was widely shared on social media and in the press. A video taken by passenger Tom Caw shows the moment when another passenger tries to capture the pigeon with a jacket. In an Instagram post, Caw described the episode: "When I boarded, I heard a passenger tell the flight attendant that there was a pigeon on the plane. The pilot took the microphone and confirmed it, saying he had no experience with this type of situation. When the staff managed to remove the pigeon, the passengers applauded - and a little girl even asked if she could pet it." After the second pigeon appeared, the pilot had to inform the control tower about the return. "The pilot said that when he told the tower they would return due to a pigeon, the controller responded that it was the first time he had heard of something like that. The pilot replied that it was the second - the first had been half an hour before," Caw reported. In an official statement, Delta thanked the "careful actions" of the team and customers for safely removing the two birds from the plane before departure and apologized for the delay in the journey.

Some were identified as drones, but others did not fit any explanation: for example, metal balls moving in groups, six blue flyers flying in a tight formation at an altitude of 6,000 meters, or a fast-moving object crossing the sky at a speed of 800 km/h at an altitude of 10,000 meters. For comparison, commercial drones typically reach an altitude of 150 meters and a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
