“Some movies are obviously great. Others gradually thrust their greatness upon us. When ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ was released in 1987, I enjoyed it immensely, gave it a favorable review, and moved on. But the movie continued to live in my memory. Like certain other popular entertainments (‘It's a Wonderful Life’, ‘E.T.’, ‘Casablanca’) it not only contained a universal theme but matched it with the right actors and story, so that it shrugged off the other movies of its kind and stood above them in a kind of perfection. This is the only movie our family watches as a custom, almost every Thanksgiving.
“The movie is founded on the essential natures of its actors. It is perfectly cast and soundly constructed, and all else flows naturally. Steve Martin and John Candy don't play characters; they embody themselves. That's why the comedy, which begins securely planted in the twin genres of the road movie and the buddy picture, is able to reveal so much heart and truth.
“One night a few years after ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ was released, I came upon John Candy (1950-1994) sitting all by himself in a hotel bar in New York, smoking and drinking, and we talked for a while. We were going to be on the same TV show the next day. He was depressed. People loved him, but he didn't seem to know that, or it wasn't enough. He was a sweet guy and nobody had a word to say against him, but he was down on himself. All he wanted to do was make people laugh, but sometimes he tried too hard, and he hated himself for doing that in some of his movies. I thought of Del. There is so much truth in the role that it transforms the whole movie. Hughes knew it, writer-director Chris Columbus captured it in ‘Only the Lonely’ (1991), and Steve Martin knew it, and played straight to it.
“The movies that last, the ones we return to, don't always have lofty themes or Byzantine complexities. Sometimes they last because they are arrows straight to the heart. When Neal unleashes that tirade in the motel room and Del's face saddens, he says, ‘Oh. I see.’ It is a moment that not only defines Del's life but is a turning point in Neal's, because he also is a lonely soul, and too well organized to know it. Strange, how much poignancy creeps into this comedy, which only becomes stronger while we're laughing.”

在报亭收银台前等待时，我听到了一个熟悉的声音。
柜台后面传来了阿根廷总统哈维尔·米莱的声音。
女收银员一边等候顾客和收钱，一边在听哈维尔·米莱的YouTube视频。视频的内容是米莱要在阿根廷恢复法律和秩序。
轮到我时，我问她是不是在听米莱的节目。这不是我第一次在她这里取件。
这位女士——也许是店主——是一位矮小壮实的南美人，土著，年过花甲，有点暴躁和不耐烦，动作生硬。
当她听到米莱的名字时，脸色发生了变化。因为我第一次看到了她的笑容。
“是的，我喜欢他。”她回答道。
我把我的手机怼到她眼前，给她看我和米莱的自拍照。
那张笑脸又有了变化。这一次纯粹是惊奇。她看着我，仿佛我是来自另一个星球的生物。
从我的角度看，我认识哈维尔·米莱不是什么非凡的事情。
毕竟，我们都同属于奥地利学派——一个经济学思想流派，它的拥护者数量非常有限。包括讲西班牙语的奥地利学派追随者在内，“奥派们（the Austrians）”彼此都认识。
对我来说，像这位女士这样的人也关心这些议题——至少是略有涉及——反而是一个奇迹。
一位年迈的土著妇女，其教育水平可想而知，她也许从未瞥见过大学里面的样子，却把哈维尔·米莱的YouTube视频揣在怀里，听他高谈阔论着奥地利学派、米塞斯、哈耶克、自由意志主义和无政府资本主义。
说真的，这些主题我认为并不适合大众。
我好奇地问，她为何喜欢米莱。她举了两个理由。
米莱亲近人民，关心穷人的需要。
我想知道她是不是阿根廷人。这一点，阿根廷人的音容本身体现不出来。
她说她来自玻利维亚。
玻利维亚人不是很喜欢阿根廷人。阿根廷人会在战争中抢劫玻利维亚的土地。
但是，她仍然会喜欢米莱。
我将信将疑地跟她说了再见。
从那时起，她总是会朝我微笑。
哈维尔·米莱现象比我们想象的更广泛、更重要。
在马德里城郊的一个小报亭里，一位背景普通的玻利维亚土著妇女聆听着哈维尔·米莱关于自由理念的言说。
米莱大概是要赢得这场文化战争了。
他飞速地拿下阿根廷总统职位，成为全球政治变革的希望灯塔，这是近年来历史上最迷人的政治事件。
是有史以来最难以置信和令人惊叹的政治成功。
一位无政府资本主义者成为了一个国家的总统。
这怎么可能？
米莱不知道是从哪里冒出来的。
是的，他在阿根廷闯出了一点名堂——成为人们口中好斗、风趣、偶尔荤素不忌的脱口秀嘉宾。
但是，他是以彻底的门外汉身份参政的。
2021年参选、没有组织架构、没有政党、一切从零开始。
而在庇隆主义（Peronist）的阿根廷——一个数十年以社会主义著称的国家——他成了世界上第一位自由主义-自由意志主义（liberal-libertarian）总统。
竞选期间，他在集贸市场（marketplace）中作经济学讲座。
他改变了公共论辩的坐标，主导了竞选，将自由、废除央行和激进改革带入公共话语。
米莱不是第一位自由市场改革家。
在德国，格哈德·施罗德（Gerhard Schröder）总理早在新世纪初就通过他的“2010年议程（Agenda 2010）”成功地改革了劳动力市场。
但是，施罗德这么做并不是为了兑现竞选承诺。
他这样做是因为没有其他选择。
二战后，路德维希·艾哈德（Ludwig Erhard）的自由意志主义改革是休克疗法，他进行了通货改革，引进了市场经济。
但是，艾哈德没有在竞选中对此广而告之，而是利用这个机会推进他认为正确的事情。
德国很幸运。
因此，令人惊奇的事情，不是米莱提出了甚至比艾哈德更激进的改革。
独一无二的是，他在竞选期间就宣布了这些改革，然后因为这些提议当选了。
米莱现象向人们提出了重要的问题。
一个横空出世的门外汉是如何公开以对国家的激进自由意志主义批判参与竞选，并成为史上第一位自由意志主义总统的？

2024年9月，米莱在联合国发表了令人惊叹的演讲，
这些事情向人们提出了进一步的问题。
米莱现象会变成全球现象吗？
是不是正在形成一个新的，反对左翼主导的觉醒文化的全球联盟？
一个追求真理和自由的联盟？
米莱努力使文化战争全球化，其第一个成果就是对特朗普竞选产生了显而易见的影响力。
他对埃隆·马斯克（Elon Musk）和维韦克·拉瓦斯瓦米（Vivek Ramaswamy） ——此二人从米莱那里复制了设立“去监管部”的理念（the idea of a ministry of deregulation），还有他的电锯理念——的豪言和行动的影响，都是无可否认的。
左派陷入了恐慌。
他们从骨子里害怕米莱取得政治成功。
他们竭尽全力阻止米莱成功。
最近数十年来，世界正以前所未有的速度迅速左转，走向国家主义，难道现在出现了一种逆转的趋势？
难道我们身处一场自由意志主义的革命中？
对其他国家来说，我们可以从米莱现象中学到什么？
米莱的成功策略多大程度上可以复制？
如何才能以自由意志主义理念，以更好地理念形塑一场政治转向？
米莱已经表明，这样一种转向是可行的。时机已经成熟。
