If you use a client that allows you to mute certain words, you can mute spam replies from THIS particular spam attack by adding "randomuser.me" to your muted words. However, that will not be effective at stopping future spam.
Here's my canned response for dealing with spam on a more long-term basis:
If you are seeing a lot of spam in your replies, it is because you are reading from relays that spammers can write to for free. Spam can only happen if two things are true: 1. It's free and easy to create new identities. 2. New identities can write notes to relays without a cost.
We're not able to, nor do we want to, make it difficult to create a new identity on Nostr, so reducing spam by making new users jump through hoops that can only be enforced by a centralized entity is not an option.
That means we need to prevent it via option 2, by restricting new identities from writing notes to relays without a cost. If you are reading from relays that don't impose some cost to write to them, either social, computational, or monetary, then you are bound to see spam on a regular basis.
Instead of reading from free and public relays, you should consider trading them out for the following types of relays:
- Web-of-Trust (WoT): This relay type imposes a social cost in order to write to it. Namely, you have to be followed by the relay owner or one of the npubs the relay owner follows before you can write notes to the relay. These types of relays may also automatically aggregate notes from those within the web-of-trust, even if they were written to other relays.
- Proof-of-Work (PoW): This relay type is less common, and it imposes a computational cost to write to it. Only those who have dedicated computational energy to generating the required PoW can write to the relay. This cost is trivial for the honest user, who only posts up to a couple times a minute, but imposes heavy costs on spammers, who are trying to post hundreds or thousands of times per minute. Unfortunately, most Nostr clients don't support adding PoW to notes, so most relays don't use it as a spam mitigation measure.
- Paid Relays: As the name implies, this relay type imposes a monetary cost to write to it. It may also impose a cost to read from it, but that is less common. Since this cost is per npub, and spammers don't ever use just one npub since that's too trivial to mute and move on, this makes paid relays affordable for honest users, but too expensive for spammers.
Since the only two relay types above that are currently in wide use are web-of-trust and paid relays, here are a few suggestions for each.
Web-of-Trust:
- wot.utxo.one
- nostrelites.org
- wot.nostr.net
Paid:
- nostr.wine
- nostr.land
- jellyfish.land

nostr:nprofile1qqsywt6ypu57lxtwj2scdwxnyrl3sry9typcstje65x7rw9a2e5nq8sprpmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuumwdae8gtnnda3kjctvqydhwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnzd96xxmmfdecxzunt9e3k7mgpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mq9hxafw made some excellent points too, which might have been overlooked regarding where the "yield" comes from. First, there are two sources of revenue: channel leasing and payment routing. Calling it "transaction fees" loses a lot of nuance when it comes to how decentralized the payment infrastructure is and how it is created (which are the most beautiful parts IMO).
Additionally, Marty generalized the source of yield as the "liquidity locked" which is more accurate than most interpretations, where most expect that the "yield" comes from the Bitcoin deposited (it doesn't, but that's an essential ingredient). The routing revenue comes from the ability to send AND RECEIVE payments. The ability to receive is provided by the network connections and should not be overlooked. The total liquidity locked (or the node Capacity) is actually a more accurate denominator when calculating yields to reflect the sum of the balance held and the Bitcoin connections to it (aka the inbound liquidity).
As for Rails, our new nostr:nprofile1qqsz4uq7p44arw0mh83agv2h6ezep7e8mnau403g0p99svhp00hms7cprfmhxue69uhkummnw3ezu6rpdej8j6n4de4hjtnrdaksz8thwden5te0vakx7cnpdskhyetvv9ujucm9wd3juarjv9jx2qfzwaehxw309ahx7um5wfjkzmfdw3jhxapww4czuunpd9k8wcte9eshququcjzc3 yield service, we tried to capture some key motivations for bitcoiners: get more Bitcoin, keep self-custody, and support the Bitcoin network. I think we succeeded. Even if our customers didn't earn anything from Rails, I think we'd still get sign-ups, such is the desire to support Bitcoin ❤️. That's all theoretical though because Rails customers ARE earning bitcoin because they provide a valuable service: the ability to settle payments immediately, inexpensively, and with better privacy.
Providing liquidity within the lightning network is not as straightforward as a simply depositing Bitcoin and earning money (but we made it appear that way with Rails since that's what people expect). Instead, the AI system that we created (not an LLM btw; it uses reinforcement learning and graph neutral networks) is allocating Bitcoin to increase network payment reliability, ensuring decentralized nodes can both receive and send larger payments.
The task that Rails performs will never end because the Lightning Network is dynamic. Lightning is in hyper growth mode as Bitcoin is adopted as a medium of exchange which is a layer of dynamism on top of a dynamic economy.
Consequently, because Bitcoin is scarce, lightning is dynamic, and providing infrastructure is not free, routing revenue will not be a race to the bottom even if adding bitcoin to the lightning network is made easy.
Thanks for reading my thoughts and I'm eager to hear your perspectives!

Web browser extensions in the context of Nostr are used for signing notes, not for loading feeds or not loading feeds in Nostr clients.
What you may be experiencing is that some Nostr clients try to load and decrypt your DMs immediately upon login, and these get sent to your signer extension as separate requests. If the extension doesn't handle those requests gracefully, it tries to load all of the requests at the same time, crashing your computer.
Nostrudel does not do this. Instead, it waits to decrypt messages until you instruct it to do so manually. Likewise, Coracle has direct messages disabled by default, so it should not send you a bunch of decryption requests unless and until you enable direct messages.
Now, if you want a client that allows you to post to Nostr without the distraction of a feed, you should check out https://shipyard.pub/

I'm sure some vibe-coder would be happy to run some prompts in return for sats.
Bear in mind, it's going to need to "live" somewhere, so there will be hosting costs as well as a cost to buy a domain where it can be accessed, so take that into consideration with the amount you offer.

Some Metaplanet analysis of the plan they announced today.
Here’s the “conservative” version:
759M shares already issued, another 555M on the way, so ~73% dilution (per page 7 of the deck released today). Likely all issued in less than 100 trading days (per page 20 - assuming a modest increase in volume). At an average purchase price of $115k per BTC that'll give them an additional ~57k BTC at the current stock price of ~$11.70 for a total of around 66k BTC worth about $7.6B.
With a new total of 1.3B shares outstanding here's a chart showing the stock price at various mNAV's:

Quite hilarious... YakiHonne must be ignoring the "-" in front of the timestamp and treating it as a future date, or "now" until that date (September 17, 2048) arrives.
It's meant to be July 4th, 1776, but timestamps apparently don't work when they are negative numbers...
On a side-note, I have just found a way to post notes that are guaranteed to be at the top of the timeline... At least until YakiHonne fixes it.
Suggestion for YakiHonne devs: Ignore notes with timestamps in the future by more than a certain margin. Say 30 minutes tops.

WAT! LOL!
I thought that note didn't even get published to the relays, because every client I have tried won't even show it at all.
I hadn't tried YakiHonne...
So, the note has a timestamp that is a negative number. relay.damus.io gave me an error when I tried to publish it there with NAK.
I am on Coracle right now, and though I can see notifications for a few responses to the note, I cannot load the note at all. 😂
I'll leave it for a bit then pop over to YakiHonne and request deletion.

For sure, it would be possible. They would just need to be encrypted. Not sure what client would be ideal for it at this time, though.
The vast majority of note kinds are designed to be public, and therefore are not encrypted. The main exception are DMs, so that might be the route to go. DMs can't be edited, though, so each revision would be a separate DM, and it would get out of hand pretty quickly.

Are you asking if there will be more Nostr users THAN vibe-coded Nostr apps in a year? If so, it could be a close call, but I think the Nostr users will barely surpass the number of vibe-coded apps. 😂
Or are you asking if the number of users will be more than today, and if the number of vibe-coded apps will be more than today? I think both would be a yes, though vibe-coded apps growth will be a much higher rate than user growth.

Unfortunately, you can't do anything prior to January 1, 1970, because timestamps would be negative numbers and relays reject the note if the timestamp isn't an integer. 😂
Anything after that is fair game, though.

I have been using Joplin, encrypted and synced to my Nextcloud. This could work for collaboration, as well, but as with anything encrypted, you would need to give the collaborators the decryption key, so you will likely want to have a separate profile for notes you need to collaborate on, and share the decryption key only for that profile.
If you don't need encryption, I believe Joplin allows you to go that route, too.
As for a Nostr-based note app that allows for collaborative editing, well... we don't really have a Nostr-based note app yet. Best option is using a long-form client and only publishing to a private relay you control. However, most long-form clients just publish to your outbox relays by default, and don't offer a way to override that. The best option I can think of for this would be Comet.md. This is a local-first note app for desktop, so it's not cross-platform. However, it does let you publish your note to a specific relay, and only that relay, even if it is not one of your outbox relays.
Note collaboration is still a problem that needs to be solved. The way Nostr currently handles all notes is that a note can only have one possible author, identified in the "pubkey" field of the note. The signature attached to the note must be valid for that pubkey. There's a couple approaches to collaboration that I can think of possibly working.
First would be the way that has already been implemented for wiki notes. These notes have one author, but anyone else can come along and fork the note, which creates a separate note that only they can sign. However, if the original author likes their changes, they can merge them into their own version of the note. Amethyst also has something like this for "suggesting edits" to regular text notes. But no one ever uses it because Amethyst is the only client that supports these types of edits to regular text notes, so those on any other client will just see the original note.
Another approach would be to have a new standard for assigning collaborators. In this case, the original author would sign the note, and then they would sign a separate, special kind of note that references the original note ID and lists the pubkeys of approved contributors. If any of those npubs submit a new version of the note signed by their private key, the relay will accept it, but keep the copy of the original owner's version, in case they want to revert the change. Clients would display the most recent version of the note signed by the owner or any of the approved contributors, but also display to the owner the option to either commit the changes made by their contributors, or revert their changes. If the owner commits the changes, a new version of the note is created with the owner's signature, and all previous versions can be discarded by the relay. The relay only keeps the revisions of the contributors if they are newer than the most recent version signed by the owner.
Obviously, this second option is more complex and would require new relay logic to implement, so it may be a while before we see anything like it.
