I grew up in an era when indoctrination was not so plain to me (1970s). I also was raised in a household where one of my parents was heavily involved in civic/municipal organizations and activities (city council, being on first-name basis with representatives in D.C. because of their job, etc.), all basically very statist, but believing everything they did was for good reason/causes. As a child, it was much easier to believe in certain things that way, unfortunately, and much harder to untangle oneself from this way of life/unlearn this way of thinking. When I was in my early twenties, I was much too busy working in offices in the public & private sector and focused on my career, to know any better...which was a result of another thing ruining me at the time (2nd-wave feminism).

yes this is a good point, the most important and frequently accessed data should be closest to the lowest level cpu caches. Unfortunately most devs are so abstracted away from this idea these days.
This is another reason i love nostrdb’s design. All the nostr data is always hot in cache, and is in a compact binary format for cache efficiency, and even lmdb has an optimial cpu cache structure. The effect is very noticeable.
It also completely changes the way I built notedeck compared to damus ios. No async db calls, since its fast enough to do in realtime at 144fps. No need to keep ui in sync with the db. Each frame always has the latest version. Works offline. Greatly simplifies building nostr apps.
So in other words you are correct, but it’s a very subtle point!

Invasion of the 'Journal Snatchers': the Firms That Buy Science Publications and Turn Them Rogue
Major scholarly databases have removed dozens of academic journals after researchers discovered they had been purchased by questionable companies and transformed into predatory publications. A January 2025 study identified 36 legitimate journals acquired by recently formed firms with no publishing experience, who then dramatically increased publication fees and output while lowering quality standards.
According to information scientist Alberto Martin-Martin from the University of Granada, publishers are being offered up to hundreds of thousands of euros per journal title. Once acquired, journals typically introduce or raise article-processing charges while churning out papers often outside the publication's original scope. Scopus has delisted all 36 identified journals, and Web of Science removed 11 of 17 affected titles from its index. "As there has been significant change (different ownership), there is no guarantee that review quality is at the same level as the original journals," an Elsevier spokesperson told Nature.

"I want to propose a humanitarian agreement that includes the repatriation of 100% of the 252 Venezuelans who were deported, in exchange for the release and delivery of an identical number (252) of the thousands of political prisoners that you hold," Bukele continued (translated).
If Maduro accepts the deal, it could ease political pressure on the Trump administration, which has been accused of denying due process to illegals and was temporarily blocked by the Supreme Court on Saturday from further deportations under the 18th century law.
The proposal comes after US Democrats dropped everything to demand the return of a 'wrongly deported' El Salvadoran national living in the US illegally, Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

Garcia, whose wife issued a restraining order for domestic violence, was issued a deportation order and was later given a "withholding of removal" status due to danger he faced from a 'rival gang' if he returned to El Salvador.

Last week, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) visited Abrego Garcia in El Salvador after Bukele refused to cooperate with an order by the US Supreme Court instructing the Trump administration to "facilitate" the return of Abrego Garcia.
According to Venezuelan rights group Foro Penal, there are 903 political prisoners being held by Maduro, including protesters and opposition leaders. Among the political prisoners Bukele mentioned is the son-in-law of former diplomat Edmundo González, who ran against Maduro and is considered by some allies of Washington to have won the election. Also being held by Maduro are journalist Roland Carreño, and the mother of opposition leader María Corina Machado.
