1. Suspicious date — 2015
Satoshi Nakamoto stepped away from the public scene in April 2011 and has never published an authenticated public or private message since. The message you’re showing is dated 2015, which is 4 years after his disappearance.
2. Unverified email address
The email used here is satoshi at vistomail.com — this is not a verified or known address associated with Satoshi (he used satoshin@gmx.com and satoshi@vistomail.com before 2011, but there’s no indication this one is legit). He never signed this message with a PGP key, which would have allowed cryptographic authentication.
3. Context of the debate: Bitcoin XT
In 2015, Mike Hearn and Gavin Andresen launched Bitcoin XT to increase the block size. This fork sparked intense debate. Several people tried to impersonate Satoshi during this time to influence the discussion. This message is believed to be part of that.
4. No cryptographic proof
Satoshi holds cryptographic keys linked to the earliest mined blocks. If he wanted to prove his identity, he could simply sign a message with one of those keys. That has never been done for this message.

Israël blokkeert al 55 dagen hulp voor Gaza, voedselvoorraden raken op
Geen voedsel, geen water, geen medicijnen. Al 55 dagen laat Israël geen noodhulp toe tot de Gazastrook. Het Wereldvoedselprogramma (WFP) van de Verenigde Naties kondigde aan dat het door zijn laatste voorraden heen is. Ondertussen gaan de bombardementen in alle hevigheid door en drijft het Israëlische leger Palestijnen een steeds kleiner deel van Gaza in.
Hulporganisaties slaan nog maar een keer alarm. "Vandaag hebben we onze laatste overgebleven voedselvoorraden afgeleverd bij gaarkeukens in de Gazastrook", zegt het WFP. Deze keukens hebben nu nog voor een paar dagen eten, terwijl vrijwel de hele bevolking ervan afhankelijk is.
Andere hulporganisaties kampen met hetzelfde probleem. "Onze voorraad voedsel en hulpgoederen is bijna uitgeput", schrijft de Palestijnse Rode Halve Maan. Gisteren waarschuwde ook Unicef hiervoor. De VN-kinderrechtenorganisatie is nu de laatste hygiënepakketten, babyvoeding en tentzeilen aan het uitdelen, en moet kiezen wie er wel en wie er geen hulp meer krijgt.
"Er is massale ondervoeding en een totaal gebrek aan schoon water", zei Wouter Booij, woordvoerder van Unicef. "Het gevolg is dat kinderen die al 18 maanden lang lijden door deze oorlog, nu nog acuter en kritieker worden getroffen. Met een uitzonderlijk groot risico dat zij zullen sterven."
Langste hulpblokkade
In de eerste weken van de oorlog in oktober 2023 blokkeerde Israël ook alle hulp, en in de maanden daarna beperkte het de instroom, maar niet eerder werd er zo'n lange periode niets toegelaten. "Het voedseltekort is nog nooit zo erg geweest", zegt Karam, een inwoner van Khan Younis in Gaza. "Zonder gaarkeukens hongeren mensen uit."
VN-noodhulporganisatie OCHA zei vorige week dat de humanitaire crisis nu erger is dan op enig ander moment in de oorlog. "Hongersnood is niet slechts een risico, maar verspreidt zich waarschijnlijk snel in vrijwel elk deel van Gaza", waarschuwden de CEO's van twaalf internationale hulporganisaties. "Kinderen eten minder dan één maaltijd per dag", aldus een medewerker van Oxfam.
"Een massagraf voor Palestijnen", omschreef Artsen zonder Grenzen de situatie. "We zijn getuigen van de verwoesting van de hele bevolking van Gaza." Duitsland, het VK en Frankrijk riepen Israël eerder deze week op "per direct snelle en ongehinderde toevoer van hulp" te hervatten. "Palestijnse burgers, onder wie een miljoen kinderen, lopen een acuut risico op hongersnood, epidemische ziekten en de dood", zeiden de landen.
Israël zegt dat het hulp blokkeert om Hamas te dwingen de overgebleven gijzelaars in Gaza vrij te laten. Het ontzeggen van hulp en daarmee in feite een burgerbevolking uithongeren is een oorlogsmisdaad. Hamas zegt dat het de 59 gijzelaars, van wie er naar schatting 24 nog in leven zijn, wil vrijlaten als Israël zich terugtrekt uit Gaza en er een einde komt aan de oorlog.
Dat zou al zijn gebeurd als op 2 maart, zoals oorspronkelijk afgesproken, de tweede fase van het bestand tussen Israël en Hamas was ingegaan. Israël wilde zich niet committeren aan een volledige terugtrekking en het beëindigen van de oorlog, omdat het eerst Hamas wil vernietigen. Op 18 maart hervatte het de bombardementen op de Gazastrook.
Sindsdien zijn er volgens Palestijnse cijfers meer dan 2000 mensen gedood bij Israëlische aanvallen, van wie 78 in de afgelopen 24 uur. Onder de slachtoffers zijn honderden kinderen. "Sinds de ineenstorting van het staakt-het-vuren, en met name afgelopen week, zijn de Israëlische aanvallen op Palestijnen in een stroomversnelling geraakt", zegt de VN-mensenrechtencommissaris.
Voortbestaan Palestijnen bedreigd
Begin deze week heeft het Israëlische leger bovendien 36 graafmachines, waterwagens en rioolzuigtanks verwoest, waardoor reddingswerkzaamheden, puinruimen en het leveren van hulp en voorzieningen verder worden bemoeilijkt, zegt het bureau. "Het lijkt erop dat dit beleid is gericht om de bevolking levensomstandigheden op te leggen die onverenigbaar zijn met hun voortbestaan als groep in Gaza."
Andere VN-commissies en internationale mensenrechtenorganisaties kwamen eerder al tot een vergelijkbare conclusies en zeiden daarbij dat Israëls acties neerkomen op genocide.
Het Israëlische leger dwingt ondertussen de bevolking naar steeds kleiner wordende, van elkaar gescheiden gebieden in Gaza. Ruim 30 procent van de Gazastrook is inmiddels door Israël als "bufferzone" aangemerkt. Palestijnen zijn hieruit verdreven en de overgebleven bebouwing, infrastructuur en akkers worden vernield. Israël zegt niet van plan te zijn hier weg te trekken of Palestijnen er te laten terugkeren. Buiten deze zones zijn er ook nog aanzienlijke delen van de Gazastrook die het leger heeft ingenomen of waar Israël evacuatiebevelen voor heeft uitgevaardigd.
