In Australië is een teckel na 529 dagen in de wildernis weer veilig terug. Volgens dierenorganisatie Kangala Wildlife Centre maakt het dier het goed en wordt het snel weer herenigd met haar baasjes.
Het hondje, genaamd Valerie, ontsnapte in november 2023 van de camping op Kangaroo Island aan de zuidkust van Australië. Het eiland van zo'n 160 kilometer lang en 55 kilometer breed, werd maandenlang het terrein van de mini dachshund. Het dier wist aan zowel de giftige slangen als de mens te ontsnappen en overleefde maar liefst 17 maanden in de Australische wildernis.
Eigenaren Josh Fishlock en Georgia Gardner zochten na de verdwijning van Valerie een week lang het eiland af, maar van de teckel was geen spoor meer te bekennen. Fishlock en Gardner verlieten in tranen het eiland en keerden terug naar hun huis ten westen van Sydney ruim 1500 kilometer verderop. "We waren zo overstuur en voelden ons schuldig. Ik weet nog dat ik op de veerboot naar het eiland keek en alleen maar kon huilen", zei Gardner een maand geleden in een interview.
Favoriete snacks
"Het was zoeken naar een speld in een hooiberg", zei Fishlock destijds tegen de Australische krant The Times. Die speld kwam na een halfjaar even tevoorschijn. Het Kangala Wildlife Centre kreeg een eerste teken van leven van de teckel. Inwoners van het eiland maakten meldingen van een kleine hond met een roze halsband die over het eiland zwierf.
Maandenlang zochten vrijwilligers naar de jonge teckel die ontsnapte toen ze een jaar oud was. Met haar eigen speeltjes en favoriete snacks werd het dier naar een speciale opgezette val gelokt. Op camera's konden de vrijwilligers van Kangala Wildlife zien dat Valerie regelmatig een bezoek bracht aan de plek.
Uiteindelijk is het de dierenorganisatie gelukt om de val op afstand dicht te zetten nadat Valerie daarin werd gesignaleerd. "We zijn ontzettend blij en opgelucht dat Valerie eindelijk veilig is", schrijft Kangala Wild Life Centre op Instagram. "We kunnen nu beginnen om haar zo snel mogelijk terug te brengen naar haar lieve ouders."
Verwend
Volgens The Times wist Valerie ondanks haar verwende leven de wildernis te overleven. Voor haar vermissing sliep ze in bed bij haar baasjes, had een eigen autostoeltje en kreeg het hondje in de winter wollen truien aan. "Ze was een echte prinses", zei Fishlock eerder tegen The Washington Post. De dierenorganisatie denkt dat Valerie overleefde dankzij aangereden dieren en water van lokale dammen.

Just watched History of Violence (2005), directed by David Cronenberg. First movie in his crime and drama phase. His 11th movie. It’s about a small town man’s past life. Captivating story. Special effects in the action scenes are fantastic. Viggo Mortensen is great in this. Perfect for the role. The family life adds a drama/emotional side to the movie. Reminds me of the Sopranos where the family life plays the same role. Last time I saw this movie was at least 15 years ago. Still holds up well

Regarding your last question, I meant that the Lightning Network protocol includes an onion packet type, when a payment fails due to insufficient balance. It needs to be pushed further. Then the intermediate node on the route sends back an onion to the sender containing an error code indicating that the channel temporarily cannot send the payment due to fee changes. It also specifies the new fees in the same onion. I haven't looked at it right now, I don't have the protocol on hand, but it's definitely there. And it's described somewhere in the Bolt specifications.

I think we actually need it to onboard Normies. Normies will show up here, think "I'm getting zero views!" even though they might be getting MORE views than back on Instagram or TikTok.
