I agree. It depends on situation at hand.
Leaving someone on read, or taking days to respond or even ignoring someone, IMHO, simply sends a message that you have no consideration, respect or regard for the person you are ignoring. I dealt with silent treatment many times, even as a teen inside of family interactions. I am very aware of the damage it causes, mentally and emotionally.
