Where are Saturn's ears? Galileo is credited, in 1610, as the first person to see Saturn's rings. Testing out Lipperhey's recently co-invented telescope, Galileo did not know what they were and so called them "ears". The mystery deepened in 1612, when Saturn's ears mysteriously disappeared. Today we know exactly what happened: from the perspective of the Earth, Saturn's rings had become too thin to see. The same drama plays out every 15 years because Saturn, like Earth, undergoes tilt-driven seasons. This means that as Saturn goes around the Sun, its equator and rings can tilt noticeably toward the Sun and inner Solar System, making them easily visible, but from other orbital locations will appear almost not at all. The featured picture from Brasilia, Brazil shows a modern version of this sequence: the top ring-dominated image was taken in 2020, while the bottom ring-obscure image taken earlier in 2025. Quando um cessar-fogo é uma tentativa genuína de garantir a paz? E quando é simplesmente uma questão de relações públicas? É uma pergunta que tem sido feita com frequência ultimamente. Principalmente em relação ao presidente da Rússia.
Cessar-fogos curtos estão se tornando uma constante no Kremlin.
Primeiro, Vladimir Putin declarou uma cessação de hostilidades de 30 horas durante a Páscoa, retratando-a como um gesto "humanitário".
Agora, o líder do Kremlin anunciou uma trégua unilateral de três dias para o início de maio. Ela ocorrerá de 8 a 10 de maio, coincidindo com os eventos que marcam o 80º aniversário do fim da Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Em um comunicado, o Kremlin afirmou que todas as ações militares cessariam por 72 horas. Citou considerações "humanitárias" (novamente) e deixou claro que Moscou esperava que a Ucrânia seguisse o exemplo.
Em resposta à proposta, a Ucrânia questionou por que a Rússia não poderia se comprometer com uma paralisação imediatamente e pediu que um cessar-fogo fosse implementado por pelo menos 30 dias.
"Se a Rússia realmente quer a paz, deve paralisar os ataques imediatamente", disse o Ministro das Relações Exteriores, Andrii Sybiha, acrescentando: "Por que esperar até 8 de maio?"
Então, vindo do presidente russo que lançou uma invasão em larga escala da Ucrânia há mais de três anos, este é um esforço sincero para encerrar os conflitos?
Ou simplesmente um exercício de relações públicas do Kremlin para impressionar Donald Trump? Os críticos do Kremlin suspeitarão que se trate da segunda opção.

Durante o brevíssimo chamado cessar-fogo de Páscoa, a Ucrânia acusou as tropas russas de violá-lo repetidamente.
Moscou usou seu anúncio de uma pausa de 30 horas nos conflitos para enviar um sinal à Casa Branca: que nesta guerra a Rússia é a pacificadora e Kiev, a agressora. Acusou a Ucrânia de ignorar o que Moscou apresentou como bandeira branca e de prolongar a guerra.
Comentários recentes de Trump sugerem que ele não acreditou nisso.
Em uma publicação em sua plataforma Truth Social no fim de semana, Trump escreveu que "não havia razão" para Putin "disparar mísseis contra áreas civis, cidades e vilas [na Ucrânia] nos últimos dias".
"Isso me faz pensar", acrescentou, "que talvez ele não queira parar a guerra, esteja apenas me incentivando e precise ser tratado de forma diferente, por meio de 'Sanções Bancárias' ou 'Sanções Secundárias'? Muitas pessoas estão morrendo!!!"
Agora, o anúncio de outro cessar-fogo russo, um pouco mais longo: três dias. E, novamente, aquela alegação de preocupações "humanitárias".
Seria outra tentativa de sinalizar a Washington que o Kremlin tem apenas as melhores intenções? Que a Rússia é realmente a mocinha nessa história?
Se for assim, parece que não funcionou. Não imediatamente. A secretária de imprensa da Casa Branca, Karoline Leavitt, destacou a oferta de Moscou de um cessar-fogo temporário, mas disse: "O presidente [Donald Trump] deixou claro que quer primeiro ver um cessar-fogo permanente para impedir a matança e o derramamento de sangue.
"Ele está cada vez mais frustrado com os líderes de ambos os países", disse Leavitt.
É um indício de que o presidente dos EUA pode estar perdendo a paciência com o Kremlin, apesar de ter direcionado a maior parte de suas críticas públicas nos últimos meses ao presidente Zelensky.
