Lyn’s a macroeconomic wiz but not necessarily in a position to understand the ripple effects of these seemingly small protocol changes. Nor does he claim to be. Nor do I, for that matter.
I’m a pretty simple minded guy with only a surface level understanding of how these BTC transactions are crafted. From my perspective, I’m just asking myself, “Does this make things easier for spammers , or harder? Does it further Bitcoin’s primary purpose as money, or just it make it easier to crowd out monetary transactions with garbage? Do the people pushing the proposal receive outsized financial benefits from the change due to their own business interests?”
The only response I’ve seen so far is, “No worries. Spammers probably won’t make use of this exploit we’re introducing because, guess what, we’ve already introduced a *prior* attack vector that’s even *more* effective for supporting spam transactions.” Meh, ok. Maybe that’s true, but not exactly a compelling narrative. Why take the risk when no one is really certain what the side effects will be?
Even if turns out the change is a non-issue from a technical standpoint, if there’s enough acrimony over it to cause a split or hard fork, either on the chain itself or in terms developer mindshare, that truly is a problem. No way institutions or government agencies will want to stay onboard if there’s a debate over which branch is the real Bitcoin. I don’t think it’ll come to that, but I already see rumblings of people digging in, running alternate Bitcoin implementations, trying to poach devs from the core group, etc.
It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

At the time, nostr was barely more than an idea. Very few were using it. Fewer still understood what it could become. And yet, there was something unmistakable in it—something honest. Something necessary.
Fiatjaf’s design struck me as elegant in the way that only true protocols can be. The best systems do not need to be sold. They are not invented so much as uncovered—like mathematical truths. Good protocols take minutes to explain, hours to design, days to write, weeks to prove, months to mature, and years to replace.
In 2008, faced with institutional failure and monetary abuse, someone with a poor choice of OS, limited programming ability, and a basic grasp of cryptographic primitives carved out a narrow escape route—one governed not by authority, but by thermodynamics and consensus. It wasn’t genius that gave Bitcoin its strength. It was the refusal to ask permission. It worked because it could not be stopped.
Nostr shares the same impulse. It is raw, principled, decentralised, and unowned. Its power does not come solely from its technical design, but from the ethic of those who use it—those who build without permission and speak without fear.
The need for such tools became inescapably clear during the pandemic, when a once-free civilisation chose compliance over conscience. Dissenting voices—many of them scientific, rational, and well-informed—were erased from public discourse. Had nostr existed at scale, the outcome might have been different.
Many believe Bitcoin’s progress means the danger has passed. I believe the opposite is true and that it's not time to let our guard down. If Bitcoin is the way out of monetary tyranny, nostr is the exit from informational control and the foundation of networked resistance. But we must remember: protocols are inert. It is not the tools that will save us. It is the will to build—and the courage to resist.
I’ve been quiet these past months, for a reason. But after a period of reflection, something new is taking shape. More to follow, soon.

Neighbor is your literal neighbors. Those within your community and who you cross paths with regularly. Same with your enemies.
There is a sense in which the application of neighbor and enemy extends more broadly, like on polity and nation-state levels, but the post war consensus universalized everything into abstraction. We are not called primarily to love our neighbor "humanity" in the abstract but those in the locales in which we are embodied and rooted.
Brother is any Christian believer but again the emphasis is on local church bodies and community life. I share a bond of brotherhood and fellowship with all God's people across time and space but I can only express the "one another" commands of the NT within my own local context.
As for your comments about blacks and Jews, what specifically do you have in mind? The statement is speaking about two pretty diverse people groups in a generalized way.
Christianity redeems and purifies all peoples and cultures. Each peoples has their own particular forms of degenerative sins. Some are arguably more destructive than others but none are beyond the redemptive grace of God and "dealing with them" usually comes down to specifics.
Also worth noting that the Church and a righteous magistrate have their particular spheres and duties in applying and upholding God's righteous standards. So the Church has a way of "dealing with" degeneracy that is distinct from the State.

The interesting thing about all of this is that there is the word of God and Scripture that is very clear and then there are us stiff nicked people who continue to do what we want.
And if you haven't seen people bowing to the statues of Jesus, Buddha and other Images then maybe you have not been looking. They most certainly prostate themselves in front of the images. We even have people prostrating themselves to cardinal directions on the globe and worshipping by circumambulation.
We can say the should not, but they do. So if we make graven images and people worship them then are we not creating sin? We also have the comparison of art that elevates men to equal status by propaganda. Is this also not worship and an abomination? It is. And who is not guilty of this? Certainly I am one of those who are participating. In my own house I have some of this nonsense and I root it out daily.
If you think it is nothing then you can disregard the Bible, too. Just images and fantasy of who God is, is enough for many who invent what God is without having any relationship. I would rather have a relationship than fancy art that leads to moral relativism. How many times did I prostate in front of the Buddha Rupa thinking that I was the wiser then other men? Too many. I would explain and apologize away the truth.
If we are sincere about the images then we need to reiterate that they should be not valued as on the same level with our Creator. We can do as the Tibet Monks and dump the sand painting in the river, sans the prostitution of deities.
