Evento acontece de 14 a 17 de maio, no Expominas, com a maior parte das atividades gratuita. Raça Negra (16/5), Daniel, Barões da Pisadinha e Timbalada (17/5) se apresentam na Semana S de Minas Gerais. Evento ainda conta com Feirão de Empregos, atendimentos de saúde e diversas atividades gratuitas.

De acordo com os dados da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (Pnad) Contínua, divulgados recentemente pelo IBGE, o número de pessoas em busca de trabalho no Brasil cresceu 13,1% em relação ao último trimestre. Em meio ao cenário do desemprego, Belo Horizonte terá um Feirão de Empregos gratuito, nos dias 15 e 16 de maio, com oferta de mais de 10 mil oportunidades de recolocação no mercado. O Feirão de Empregos tem inscrições abertas aqui e integra a programação da Semana S, a maior agenda integrada já promovida pelo Sistema Fecomércio MG, Sesc e Senac, que acontecerá de 14 a 17 de maio na capital mineira.
O Feirão é a chance de se conectar com empresas que estão ofertando vagas, ampliar o networking e contar com o apoio do Sistema Fecomércio MG, do corte de cabelo à entrevista, incluindo emissão da carteira digital e orientações para um bom currículo. Ao longo da Semana S, também serão disponibilizados, sem custo, atendimentos em saúde e beleza, opções de lazer, oficinas e palestras de gastronomia, além de desafios sobre coquetelaria e culinária, totalizando 900 horas de atividades, distribuídas em 25 estandes. Na sexta e no sábado (16 e 17/5), grandes shows encerram a programação, com ingressos a valores simbólicos, revertidos em doações para o Programa Sesc Mesa Brasil.
A iniciativa busca valorizar profissionais dos setores de bens, serviços e turismo, como varejo, hotelaria, cultura e alimentação, essenciais para a economia mineira.

O Feirão de Empregos da Semana S vai reunir +15 empresas oferecendo cerca de 10 mil vagas no comércio de bens, serviços e turismo!

Um dos grandes pilares da Semana S será o Feirão de Empregos, que vai reunir mais de 15 empresas, de diferentes setores, oferecendo cerca de 10 mil vagas de trabalho no comércio de bens, serviços e turismo. Durante o evento, o público vai poder entrar em processos seletivos no próprio local, com possibilidade de contratação imediata, apresentar seus currículos diretamente para recrutadores e fazer networking.
Além das vagas de emprego, a Semana S vai oferecer diversos serviços de apoio a trabalhadores e trabalhadoras. Será possível emitir a nova identidade com CPF, obter orientações sobre a Carteira de Trabalho Digital, receber atendimento para requerimento do seguro-desemprego e fazer cadastro de vagas pelo SINE, além de participar de oficina de elaboração de currículo e mapeamento de perfil comportamental.
No espaço Imagem de Sucesso, as pessoas também vão poder cuidar da aparência, realizando corte de cabelo e maquiagem básica, e ainda tirar fotografias para utilizar em currículos e perfis profissionais nas redes sociais, tudo gratuitamente.

Atrações musicais e lazer
Na sexta-feira (16/05), haverá show do Sesc Mesa Brasil Musical, com o grupo Raça Negra, das 20h às 22h, no Pavilhão do Palco Principal. No sábado (17/05), a Semana S fecha a programação com uma série de apresentações especiais em uma só ocasião: às 16h30, Os Barões da Pisadinha; às 18h30, Timbalada convida Juventude Bronzeada; e das 20h30 às 22h, o cantor Daniel.
Para acesso às atrações musicais em cada data, é necessário retirar ingressos aqui, mediante doação de R$ 25, equivalente a cinco litros de leite, que serão destinados ao Sesc Mesa Brasil. Assim, o público poderá contribuir com o trabalho de transformação social feito pelo Sistema Fecomércio MG, por meio do programa que constitui o maior banco privado de alimentos da América Latina.
Serão realizadas ainda experiências de lazer e educação para todas as idades, com entrada franca, como espaços de recreação infantil, palestras e workshops.
Saúde e bem-estar
O cuidado com a saúde estará presente na programação, com ações voltadas à promoção da qualidade de vida. Exames de bioimpedância, atendimentos oftalmológicos — incluindo refração, tonometria, fundo de olho e mapeamento de retina —, serviços odontológicos e sessões de auriculoterapia poderão ser utilizados gratuitamente, com agendamentos antecipados aqui.
Também de graça as pessoas poderão cortar o cabelo, fazer quick massage, spa das mãos e aferir a pressão e a glicemia, além de participar de oficinas para aprender a fazer penteados, técnicas básicas para uma escova perfeita e automaquiagem para o dia a dia. Dessa forma, a Semana S reafirma o compromisso do Sistema Fecomércio MG, por meio do Sesc e do Senac, com o desenvolvimento humano, social e econômico em Minas Gerais.

A Semana S de Minas Gerais acontece no Expominas, localizado na av. Amazonas, 6.200, bairro Gameleira, em Belo Horizonte. A programação começa às 9h e segue até o fim da tarde. No dia 17, sábado, das 16h às 22h, a agenda será dedicada exclusivamente aos shows.

I am for the change
- improves decentralization as it disincentivizes going straight to miners to include valid transactions.
- let's my node see the transaction, before included in a block, so my lightning node can adequately adjust fees for channel closures and justice tx with peers.
- incentivizes developers that want/need data pinning or publication that goes beyond a simple hash to use nice formats that don't bloat utxo set and are easily purgeable. In exchange they get improved privacy and don't need to work special deals with miners or TX accelerators.
I personally don't care if there is a toggle or not in core to let people control data carrier size and limits. But I do want us to get past the arbitrary restriction whose original purpose is no longer served and may be contributing to poor outcomes. I'm also not gonna get butthurt if we don't make this change as there are bigger issues to tackle.

Historically, fossil fuels—primarily coal and natural gas—have dominated U.S. electricity production. But the steady rise of renewables over the past two decades has chipped away at their dominance. In March, wind, solar, hydro, and nuclear collectively overtook coal, oil, and gas, with fossil fuels accounting for just 48.9% of total generation.

What’s Driving the Shift?

Second, seasonal demand patterns played a role. March is typically a shoulder month for electricity demand—warmer than winter but not yet summer hot—which tends to reduce the need for gas-fired peaking power plants. Lower demand allows zero-marginal-cost renewables like wind and solar to play a more prominent role on the grid.
Third, coal continues its long decline. Once the backbone of U.S. power generation, coal’s share of the mix has been in free fall since the mid-2000s. In March, coal accounted for just 15% of overall electricity generation (and ~18% of electricity produced by utilities).
Nuclear power also remains a steady contributor, generating around 19% of electricity, while hydro added another 7%. Combined, these non-fossil sources provide a rapidly growing part of the U.S. grid, with gas providing backup during peaks and seasonal extremes.
A One-Month Wonder, or a Trend?
It’s important to view this milestone in context. April’s low fossil fuel share is partly seasonal, and likely to rebound in the hotter summer months when demand for air conditioning increases and natural gas generation ramps up. Indeed, in 2023, fossil fuels still provided 60% of total annual electricity generation.
However, the trajectory is clear: renewable energy is rapidly scaling, and fossil fuels—especially coal—are losing ground.
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), passed in 2022, has accelerated investment in clean energy infrastructure. Billions of dollars are now flowing into solar, wind, battery storage, and transmission upgrades. Analysts project that renewables will continue to take a growing share of the power mix, driven not just by policy, but by economics. In many parts of the country, new wind and solar projects are already the lowest-cost option for new generation.
Grid Reliability and the Energy Transition
One lingering concern is reliability. Fossil fuels, especially natural gas, still provide critical dispatchable power when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing. The challenge now is to scale clean, reliable alternatives, such as long-duration energy storage, advanced nuclear, and grid-interactive demand response.
There are also regional differences to consider. Some states—like California and Texas—have made significant strides in renewable integration, while others remain heavily reliant on fossil fuels. Building out the national transmission grid will be essential to balancing these disparities and ensuring a reliable, resilient system.
A Glimpse Into the Future
The March data doesn’t mean the U.S. has “solved” the energy transition—but it does offer a preview of what the grid could look like in the not-so-distant future. As technology improves, costs continue to fall, and policy support remains strong, it’s likely that fossil fuels will make up less than half of the annual electricity mix within this decade.
