oof... i've got my housing settled for another year, gonna try and stack hard this coming year so i can just get the boat already by the end of it and live in that, starting with leaving this island and probably heading west across the atlantic, to maybe mexico and drop anchor in a marina in a small mexican fishing town
i'm quite sick of the stress in my life at the moment, i am getting the feeling that once i've delivered a decent product for my current project i'm going to try and find new work... maybe i can get lucky even with Trump reshoring everything, to get a working visa and actually already move to USA, since after all i am an experienced systems programmer getting to a level i'd call advanced... a job in texas or something would be nice, but i'll not be flying there, i'm taking me and my cat by boat, fuck it, yolo and all that, i can stack enough for a 40 year old boat in good working condition with a diesel engine, a sloop, that will still be mobile even without any fuel
probably would end up selling it at some point after if i manage to get a job somewhere in USA and can physically be at the lab where i will be working
just feeling exhausted today
still gotta do a heap more work as i found a bug in my code and i'm part way done fixing it

A message to the NOSTR dev community.
I see devs (founders) hyperfocused on shipping features rather than designing valuable user journeys. This is the main reason why many projects/apps fail on adoption IMO.
NOSTR app are full of friction and usability problems. Everyone is copying eachothers patterns and assumptions about what apps should be. Most are designing for their own persona which is not representative for most users.
The solution is to give UX leads ownership over the user journey, instead of devs dominating every decision and shipping before actual user testing and research/understand their needs.
To make things easy and engaging, requires knowledge about user psychology which most devs lack.
Move beyond. Or the centralized world will win this battle without a serious fight.
Kind regards, Steve Jobs

It's been three years since I first published a note:
nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzpkg3j83suqzyfw2zcr5zet28pve279chvnpzwklwp0vexal06sr4qqsgewdg50ys3swt2wnlp5n8lq2fhylq4l2w046r93q9apyvxyg5zfcs5vpvq
At the time, nostr was barely more than an idea. Very few were using it. Fewer still understood what it could become. And yet, there was something unmistakable in it—something honest. Something necessary.
Fiatjaf’s design struck me as elegant in the way that only true protocols can be. The best systems do not need to be sold. They are not invented so much as uncovered—like mathematical truths. Good protocols take minutes to explain, hours to design, days to write, weeks to prove, months to mature, and years to replace.
In 2008, faced with institutional failure and monetary abuse, someone with a poor choice of OS, limited programming ability, and a basic grasp of cryptographic primitives carved out a narrow escape route—one governed not by authority, but by thermodynamics and consensus. It wasn’t genius that gave Bitcoin its strength. It was the refusal to ask permission. It worked because it could not be stopped.
Nostr shares the same impulse. It is raw, principled, decentralised, and unowned. Its power does not come solely from its technical design, but from the ethic of those who use it—those who build without permission and speak without fear.
The need for such tools became inescapably clear during the pandemic, when a once-free civilisation chose compliance over conscience. Dissenting voices—many of them scientific, rational, and well-informed—were erased from public discourse. Had nostr existed at scale, the outcome might have been different.
Many believe Bitcoin’s progress means the danger has passed. I believe the opposite is true and that it's not time to let our guard down. If Bitcoin is the way out of monetary tyranny, nostr is the exit from informational control and the foundation of networked resistance. But we must remember: protocols are inert. It is not the tools that will save us. It is the will to build—and the courage to resist.
I’ve been quiet these past months, for a reason. But after a period of reflection, something new is taking shape. More to follow, soon.

Can you have two wallets hooked up to the se seed phrase? 'Cause I'm thinking to verify: put some sats on the wallet you're gonna use and then use another wallet (like an app-based one) to "restore" and see if the same number of sats show up. That would mean there are two identical wallets.
Should I also try making a few transactions on the test wallet? Like send some sats to a 3rd wallet to make sure it all works, or is that not necessary?

Yes
You can argue some edge cases and things to be wary of, but yes. A properly generated bip-39 based seed (12/24 words) will be recoverable on any decent wallet.
Don't trust though - verify for yourself!

Guys I got a stupid question about #bitcoin. Let's say I get a cold wallet, put some sats in there and save the seed phrase. Then a few years down the line the hardware breaks and they don't manufacture that wallet anymore and I can't get a new one. Can I take that seed phrase and restore my funds on ANY other wallet? Even a software one like an app? Or does it have to be the same kind of wallet?
I'm guessing yes, 'cauause bitcoin lives on the bockchain and not in a wallet, but I wanna make sure so I don't risk my money.

Here are a couple reasons off the top of my head:
- moderation
i don't want to moderate kind 1's, but i want it to be public
- resources
i can run this relay on a very cheap server since it won't have to scale past the niche use case of code snippets (which could actually get pretty difficult if MCP servers start using this relay for agents, but at least i will only need to deal with increasing resources in that case)
