Here are a couple reasons off the top of my head:
- moderation
i don't want to moderate kind 1's, but i want it to be public
- resources
i can run this relay on a very cheap server since it won't have to scale past the niche use case of code snippets (which could actually get pretty difficult if MCP servers start using this relay for agents, but at least i will only need to deal with increasing resources in that case)

It's like NIP-45 Counts but allows you to reduce filtered zap amounts to based on some function like:
- sum
- avg
- min
- max
- count
relays that implement this nip will allow the client to just ask for the sum of all zaps rather than streaming all of the zaps and summing on the client.

I'm really tired of the low level scammers on Nostr. When do we get the real high level scammers? Do we need to hit some milestone first?
Begin rant.
A scammer DMed me stating that they were banned from Facebook, but they used incorrect English to say who they were.
They wanted to know if Nostr was really decentralized. Okay, this is up my alley. This is my time to shine. Let's talk. No biggie, I have typos all of the time. 👀
However, next when describing themselves, they said it again. If you have a high level White House reporter job, you're not going to constantly mix up correspondence and correspondent. 🤔
I looked into "her" Instagram profile. On various posts there "she" uses the correct language. 😡
Then in "dude's" Nostr profile they talk about bitcoin, crypto, and are only posting images stored on that scammer Storj token website. 🤬
C'mon meow.

yes, the hardest part was finding a good rich text editor to integrate well with react native but with dom components this editor should translate pretty nicely to mobile. i'll work on a mobile client once cross platform encrypted sync is implemented on the desktop.

Great discussion on the OP_RETURN front. Shinobi makes good points about the ineffective filters adding more centralization pressure in mining due to products like slip stream.
My concern the whole time has been about how nodes signal what they value but clearly these config options are not the way. These filters are not “free” as in having no downside. I’m coming around to the changes but need to think on it more.

The issue with the claim
*the filters don’t work* is that you are proving an absence of evidence, not an underlying fundamental.
*Some* spam-transactions and non-standard transactions get confirmed *despite* the filter(s), this does not prove the filters are ineffective.
What don’t they work at? Stopping spam transactions completely? Okay.
Are they not effective at *deterrence*?
How could you possibly prove this?
The moment they are turned off by default we will find out if there is evidence, and many people are extremely uncomfortable with that.
This is why Core 29 is not being run despite “developer consensus”.

An information junkie that buys ram so he doesn't have to close any tabs.
I still see this as an experimental project overall, one of my biggest issues has been trying to decide what to do with relays, with multiple columns you can just have the user decide what relays they want to read from per column.

I think it could be automated bot. Clients can fetch these data and do things like blur the content if trusted profiles flags things, relay/blossom operators can monitor them to remove unwanted items, but I still have to see that used in the wild. But apparently someone is using it, because there was plague of post promoting illegal kind of porn which got reported left and right (by me included) and it seems that nowadays there are none. Still, you can't report a report for being foolish...or can you? 🤔

Knots is at almost 7%.
What’s interesting is that Core v29.0 (the latest version) has 947 reachable nodes as of today, while Knots v20250305 is running on 1,201 active nodes. There is also an older Knots version (20240801) that's currently running on 197 nodes.
