No Bitcoin miner has a right to be profitable, no matter how big or small their operation. Instead they have the opportunity to be profitable if they manage their operation wisely. The difficulty adjustment helps to ensure this is the case.
One of my big issues with the OP_RETURN debates is this idea that today’s block reward itself is somehow not enough to incentivize miners, and the underlying assumption that demand for block space with never increase again unless all manner of shitcoinery is allowed to infiltrate network activity.
The block reward is substantial and will be for many years to come. No miner has a RIGHT to profit, as they are TOO BIG TO FAIL. All miners have opportunity to achieve it, and if some fail and more smaller ones spring up along the way as they see a chance for profit, then that’s a good thing.
I can’t help but assume that short-term self-serving interests are driving those who want to allow for more arbitrary storage on Bitcoin’s blockchain.

For me, the bigger question around this OP_RETURN debate is getting rid of the datacarriersize option (one proposal gets rid of it now, another deprecates it for getting rid of it in the future).
The Core devs are underestimating just how many people construct their own block templates given the popularity of devices like the BitAxe. Given many such miners are principled and won't mine spam transactions, that option is a very important one to have for their own mempool.

At the time, nostr was barely more than an idea. Very few were using it. Fewer still understood what it could become. And yet, there was something unmistakable in it—something honest. Something necessary.
Fiatjaf’s design struck me as elegant in the way that only true protocols can be. The best systems do not need to be sold. They are not invented so much as uncovered—like mathematical truths. Good protocols take minutes to explain, hours to design, days to write, weeks to prove, months to mature, and years to replace.
In 2008, faced with institutional failure and monetary abuse, someone with a poor choice of OS, limited programming ability, and a basic grasp of cryptographic primitives carved out a narrow escape route—one governed not by authority, but by thermodynamics and consensus. It wasn’t genius that gave Bitcoin its strength. It was the refusal to ask permission. It worked because it could not be stopped.
Nostr shares the same impulse. It is raw, principled, decentralised, and unowned. Its power does not come solely from its technical design, but from the ethic of those who use it—those who build without permission and speak without fear.
The need for such tools became inescapably clear during the pandemic, when a once-free civilisation chose compliance over conscience. Dissenting voices—many of them scientific, rational, and well-informed—were erased from public discourse. Had nostr existed at scale, the outcome might have been different.
Many believe Bitcoin’s progress means the danger has passed. I believe the opposite is true and that it's not time to let our guard down. If Bitcoin is the way out of monetary tyranny, nostr is the exit from informational control and the foundation of networked resistance. But we must remember: protocols are inert. It is not the tools that will save us. It is the will to build—and the courage to resist.
I’ve been quiet these past months, for a reason. But after a period of reflection, something new is taking shape. More to follow, soon.

A igreja já tinha resolvido essa questão faz muito tempo.
A moeda tem que nos servir, e não o contrário. Não ser escravo físico e mental dela, não ficar idolatrando, não colocar no centro da sua vida. É um meio e não qualquer fim em si. Bitcoin é só uma moeda, que é muito melhor que fiat, mas continua sendo moeda.
O pessoal libertário também esquece de $ é só uma parte, e nem tão importante assim, de se medir poder, uma ferramenta de poder, apenas um meio de ação.
A triste realidade é que se for muito interessante para o Estado tomar tudo da população e cometer um genocídio, a única chance que temos é emigrar. Não dá p usar bitcoin quando vc está morto!

ClaudeBot accessed nostr.at 12 MILLION times since december 16th.

Since I'm drawing flowers this month, I thought it would be nice to post my real plants too. I couldn't have many because one of my cats would eat them all (poisonous too).
