Verdachte opnieuw aangehouden voor moord op Xavier Durlinger
De politie heeft vanochtend een 25-jarige man uit Sittard aangehouden voor de moord op Xavier Durlinger. De man werd al eerder opgepakt in deze zaak en is op basis van nieuwe informatie opnieuw gearresteerd.
Precies drie jaar geleden verdween de 19-jarige Xavier Durlinger. Het lichaam van de tiener werd enkele dagen later gevonden in een bos in zijn woonplaats Sittard. Hij is met vijftien messteken om het leven gebracht.
Drugslijn
In april 2023 werd een verdachte aangehouden: een man van 23 jaar uit Sittard. Hij was net als Durlinger betrokken bij een drugslijn voor de levering van wiet en pillen. Hij zat een aantal maanden in voorarrest, maar werd in september dat jaar vrijgelaten door de rechtbank.
Nu is de inmiddels 25-jarige man opnieuw aangehouden. "Nieuwe onderzoeksinformatie heeft daartoe geleid", zegt een woordvoerder van de politie. Meer informatie is op dit moment niet bekend.
Kort na de vondst van het lichaam in 2022 werd al een 19-jarige verdachte aangehouden, maar hij werd na twee weken vrijgelaten vanwege een sluitend alibi. Daarnaast kwam zijn dna niet overeen met sporen die werden gevonden op de vindplaats van het lichaam. Hij is geen verdachte meer in de zaak.
Onafgebroken onderzoek
Sinds de moord op Durlinger is een onderzoeksteam van de politie onafgebroken bezig met de zaak, meldt de woordvoerder. "Tientallen getuigen zijn gehoord, honderden uren aan beeldmateriaal is doorzicht en er werd dna-onderzoek ingezet."
De zaak kreeg ook veel media-aandacht. Zo kwam het meermaals aan bod in Opsporing Verzocht. Aan de hand van de uitzending op 7 maart 2023 werd de huidige verdachte in eerste instantie aangehouden. Er werd toen aandacht gevraagd voor een fietser: die was op meerdere camerabeelden gezien en werd als mogelijke getuige bestempeld.
De fiets waarop hij reed, was mogelijk de fiets van Durlinger. De oproep leverde 120 tips op van kijkers en de man werd aangehouden - hij was de betreffende fietser.
