Nieuwe handelsafspraken VS en China gaan in, van echte toenadering is geen sprake
Vandaag gaan de nieuwe handelsafspraken tussen de Verenigde Staten en China officieel in. Amerikaanse importheffingen voor Chinese goederen werden teruggebracht van 145 procent naar 30 procent, Chinese importtarieven voor Amerikaanse goederen daalden van 125 naar 10 procent.
Het nieuws over de tijdelijke deal die de VS en China troffen, leidde wereldwijd tot optimisme. Beurskoersen schoten omhoog en Amerikaanse bedrijven plaatsten massaal bestellingen bij Chinese leveranciers. Achter de vreugdekreten schuilt echter een ongemakkelijke realiteit.
Wie de uitzonderingen op de tijdelijke overeenkomst van negentig dagen bekijkt, ziet vooral wantrouwen. China blijft vaag over de strategische wurggreep waarin het de VS houdt door de uitvoer van kritieke aardmetalen te beperken. Op zijn beurt komt de VS niet terug van de eerder ingevoerde importheffingen op producten als staal en aluminium of de recent ingevoerde belasting tegen kleine Chinese bestellingen.
Tegelijkertijd zet China in eigen land alle zeilen bij om de binnenlandse economie te stimuleren en de afhankelijkheid van de VS verder af te bouwen.
Grip op kritieke aardmetalen
Slechts uren na de bekendmaking van de overeenkomst publiceerden aan de staat gelieerde media een video over China's dominante rol in de wereldwijde kritieke aardmetalenhandel. In april voerde China exportrestricties in op de uitvoer van kritieke aardmetalen naar de VS. Deze aardmetalen zijn essentieel voor, bijvoorbeeld, de defensie-industrie.
Onder begeleiding van een dreigend muziekje wordt in de video uitgelegd hoe afhankelijk de VS is van deze aardmetalen. Een volledige opheffing van de exportrestrictie lijkt onwaarschijnlijk.
Ook blijft China vaag over het terugdraaien van andere represaillemaatregelen die het land nam tegen de Amerikaanse importheffingen. Het Chinese ministerie van Handel heeft toegezegd bepaalde tegenmaatregelen te schorsen of op te heffen, zoals handelsrestricties tegen bepaalde Amerikaanse bedrijven. Maar harde beloftes blijven uit.
Amerikaanse uitzonderingen
De VS houdt daarentegen vast aan de eerder ingevoerde importheffingen op onder andere staal, aluminium, auto's en farmaceutische goederen. Volgens president Trump is de ontwikkeling van deze industrieën van essentieel belang voor de toekomst van de VS.
Ook de importheffingen op kleine pakketjes uit China blijven hoog. De speciale heffing van 120 procent die de VS instelde op pakketjes tot 800 dollar wordt teruggebracht naar 54 procent. Ondanks deze significante verlaging blijft het voor veel Chinese makers onmogelijk om op deze manier winstgevend te zijn op de Amerikaanse markt.
Inzet op binnenlandse economische groei
Ondertussen kondigde China voorafgaand aan het overleg met de VS grote financiële versoepelingen aan om de binnenlandse economie te steunen.
Vanaf morgen bedraagt de reserveverplichting voor de Chinese Centrale Bank nog slechts 6,2 procent, een daling van 0,5 procentpunt ten opzichte van het voorgaande niveau. Hiermee komt een geschatte 123 miljard euro vrij.
Ook heeft de centrale bank de rente op zowel lange- als kortetermijnleningen verlaagd. Via deze maatregelen stelt China financiële instellingen, bedrijven en individuen in staat om makkelijker geld te lenen met als doel bedrijvigheid te stimuleren.
Daarnaast kondigde de gouverneur van de Chinese Centrale Bank aan met nieuwe stimuleringspakketten te komen voor bedrijven in strategische groeisectoren als de landbouw, technologie, zorg en dienstverlening.
De financiële toezichthouder doet ook een duit in het zakje. Deze heeft beloofd om bedrijven die zwaar getroffen zijn door de handelsoorlog met de VS te helpen. Een van de manieren waarop ze dat doen is door verzekeringsmaatschappijen voor ruim 7 miljard euro extra ruimte te bieden om te investeren in Chinese aandelen.
Onzekerheid binnenlandse markt blijft
Na de uitkomst van de onderhandelingen tussen China en de VS stelde de Amerikaanse investeringsbank J.P. Morgan zijn groeiverwachtingen voor de Chinese economie omhoog bij naar 4,8 procent. Volgens deze beramingen ligt China op koers om het gestelde groeicijfer van "rond de 5 procent" te halen.
Toch blijven de zorgen over de economie aanzienlijk, ziet ook Guo Shen, econoom en partner bij het Chinese onderzoeksbureau Hutong. De Chinese binnenlandse cijfers blijven teleurstellen. Zo daalde de producentenprijsindex vorige maand met 2,7 procentpunt. "Bedrijven lijken zich nog steeds zorgen te maken over zowel de spanning tussen China en de VS als de zwakke Chinese consumentenvraag. Als gevolg daarvan blijven bedrijven terughoudend om te investeren of te lenen", ziet Guo. Volgens haar kunnen deze zorgen niet worden weggenomen door monetair beleid alleen.

If I wanted less risk, I would rather have a blend of MSTR and STRF. I ain’t trying to pay some advisor for subpar income and capped upside.
Hybrid products are not going to make it imo if you’re risk-averse and don’t trust that MSTR will continue to be volatile and growing. Then just stick to selling bitcoin. Giving up self-custody for mediocre results while paying a fee is a hard sell
