Uma pesquisa inédita concluiu que o Brasil é o país mais miscigenado do mundo.
Quem nasce no Brasil hoje é, quase sempre, uma mistura grande de ancestralidades - mesmo que a gente não saiba sempre explicar exatamente quais. A Thays até sabe: os bisavós são espanhóis. Já o Wendell sabe que a família do pai é portuguesa, mas não de onde veio a família da mãe. A bisavó do Luiz Antônio era de Moçambique. A família da mãe é um mistério para ele. A Karen lembra da bisavó materna italiana, mas da família do pai só sabe mesmo que veio do Maranhão.
“Eu também sou desse time e não sei a ancestralidade de mais da metade da minha família. O que os cientistas da USP fizeram agora foi deixar de lado a incerteza dos nossos conhecimentos pessoais para ouvir a certeza dos nossos genes”, conta o repórter Tiago Eltz.
Eles fizeram a maior pesquisa científica da história para identificar o DNA do Brasil. O primeiro achado é um retrato geral. Geneticamente, o Brasil tem 60% de ancestralidade europeia, 27% de africana e 13% de indígena - uma herança dos povos ancestrais maior do que se imaginava. A europeia predomina no Sul e no Sudeste, africana no Nordeste, indígena no Norte e Centro-Oeste. Mas cada um desses três grupos tem centenas de divisões.

Para entender os detalhes do nosso DNA, foi preciso sequenciar o genoma de mais de 2,7 mil pessoas, de capitais a comunidades ribeirinhas. O estudo faz parte do projeto DNA do Brasil, do Ministério da Saúde, e foi publicado nesta quinta-feira (15) na “Science”, uma das mais importantes revistas científicas do mundo, com resultados nunca vistos antes.
Por exemplo, as combinações de genomas africanos que não se tem notícia nem na África. Resultado da chegada aqui de pessoas retiradas à força de partes diferentes do continente africano. Os pesquisadores da equipe da Lygia Pereira também encontraram mais de 8 milhões de variações genéticas nunca antes registradas.
“Nós estamos sequenciando genomas de ancestralidade africana e indígena que ninguém está estudando. Os bancos de dados são todos de DNA de populações brancas”, afirma Lygia Pereira, coordenadora da pesquisa/ USP.

Ao todo, o estudo definiu 18 perfis genéticos. Cada cor nas barras representa uma ancestralidade diferente. E são mais comuns os perfis genéticos misturados, que podem ter mais de uma dezena de ancestralidades.
Mas a miscigenação de hoje não começou de forma bonita. No Brasil, 71% da herança genética masculina veio de europeus e 77% da herança genética feminina veio de africanas ou indígenas. O que a outra líder da pesquisa classifica como uma violência histórica marcada no nosso DNA:
“Muitas mulheres indígenas e africanas tendo filho com homens europeus. Isso conta uma história de violência, seja ela qual for, porque é pouco provável que 80% das mulheres africanas quisessem ficar só com homens europeus e os homens indígenas somem da população”, diz Tábita Hünemeier, coordenadora da pesquisa/ USP.
Entender esse passado e o nosso presente é um avanço para o futuro. Os cientistas identificaram centenas de genes ligados a doenças que vão de pressão alta a tipos de câncer.
O assistente administrativo Antônio Pereira da Silva participou da pesquisa. Descobriu que tem predisposição a uma doença renal crônica:
“A chance de ter é grande? É. Mas se eu fizer tudo, digamos assim, direitinho, me cuidar, pode ser que tenha, pode ser que não tenha”, conta.
E é aí que pode estar a maior importância dessa pesquisa: conhecendo o genoma brasileiro, dá para prever doenças, planejar tratamentos, encontrar remédios, revolucionar a saúde.
“No futuro, a gente pode, em vez de todo mundo fazer mamografia a partir dos 40 anos, eu vou poder separar quem são aquelas mulheres que têm risco muito mais alto e tinham que ter começado com 20 anos, e aquelas que não têm risco genético nenhum e podem começar muito mais tarde. Eu vou ter uma diminuição dramática nos custos de saúde. Conhecendo melhor os nossos genomas”, afirma Lygia Pereira.

I agree. I am pro-Israeli. That is, I am for the people, and the right of people to exist and to be safe, and not to be forced to move to Europe. Which mirrors my pro-Palestinian belief, the right of those people to exist and be safe and not be bombed in the name of destroying Hamas, and not have their homes taken from them.
I don't believe in state's rights.
I'm glad a hostage was released.
