The number 21 million is not just supply—it’s scripture. It’s the line etched into the stone tablet of Bitcoin. Just like “stack sats,” just like the Genesis Block message, just like laser eyes and the HODL meme—it’s part of a living narrative.
What makes Bitcoin powerful isn’t just that it’s hard money. It’s that it means something. That it carries stories. That it has history.
And history matters.
There are people who care about the blocks mined by Hal Finney. People who care about the sats from the pizza transaction. People who trace relic sats from the Silk Road or Block 78. People who collect and preserve these like they’re digital fossils—because they are.

They’d look at you like—what the hell are you talking about?
Now tell them the truth:
“There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin.”
That line hits. It lands. It matters.
If you don’t understand the difference, then I honestly don’t think you understand Bitcoin, or the memetic power that drives everything we’re building in cyberspace.
This push to rebrand sats, flip decimals, and create 21 quadrillion coins is pure madness. It’s detached from reality. It’s a bizarre attempt to reshape something that’s already stood the test of 15 years.
Yes, we can improve Bitcoin. Make it more robust, more decentralized, more resistant. But start there. Start by encouraging people to run full nodes. Educate them about consensus—what it is, who holds it, why it matters.
Stop wasting energy on campaigns that solve no real problem and only risk breaking the culture that got us here.
This isn’t progress. It’s vandalism.
And it blows my mind.

But, shared cultural cognition towards goals has limits.[2]
This is related, as we tend to work under the influence of memes and shared cultural cognition vs. morality maps, which are cultural artifacts that supplement above. Maps are anything longer than we can handle with [2], which is two teams and three tools. From my perspective it doesn't matter how we create those maps, but we need them. This matches your point below about survival. We have tossed maps, in general, as a culture and/or just run on the simplest of rules (profit above all, and the rest follows, for instance, except for a few agreed on norms). I'd add that where you draw the "norms" line is a different topic. Most reasonable people, for instance, might be "do what thou wilt; love is the law, love under will" or something 180 degrees different, but they still won't rape children. I think this topic can be divided twice. On each side of that division we could consider cultural relativism; however, one side is more like an angels on the head of a pin conversation, and the other hits us every day in our lives as we navigate, and should get some priority.

I was too young to remember much of my life before we came to the U.S., and too young to be conscious of the fact that we weren't living in a "first world"/stable nation.
I am very aware of the fact that I am not living in a stable nation now. 😢
