Preparations are well underway this week at Fort Cavazos in Killeen, Texas, for the massive military parade scheduled in Washington, D.C., on June 14th. The event will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, which coincidentally also marks the 79th birthday of President Donald J. Trump. Soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division, III Armored Corps, were seen loading an impressive array of military equipment onto railcars bound for the capital, including 28 M1126 Strykers, 28 M2A3 “Bradley” Infantry Fighting Vehicles, 28 M1A2 SEPv3 “Abrams” Main Battle Tanks, and 7 M109A7 “Paladin” Self-Propelled Howitzers.
The upcoming parade is expected to be the largest and most costly military display in Washington, D.C., since the National Victory Celebration on June 8, 1991, which marked the end of the Gulf War. Pentagon officials estimate the cost of the event will range between $35 million and $45 million.
Notably, this will be the first parade in decades to feature tracked armored vehicles, such as tanks, on the streets of the nation’s capital. To address concerns raised by local officials in Washington and Arlington, Virginia, regarding potential infrastructure damage, the Department of Defense has pledged to lay steel plates along the parade route and to equip the vehicles with special track-pads designed to minimize wear on roads and bridges.

Also salaries in the EU are lower than the US ones. As the message you cite there says, the cost of living is lower. For some top scientists, I am sure they will be able to negotiate good conditions in specific institutions which are above their EU peers. So I do not think that this is getting people 'for cheap': they are getting the best we can give, which I believe is fair.
Also I see many EU scientist that are willing to help: there is a lot of people of danger in losing their jobs in an absolutely unfair way and institutions here are moving to try to offer them a chance. I think that community spirit is very good from the scientific community :)
My main complain was a different topic, the fact that research funding is lacking in some areas of the UE that is rarely discussed. There's a lot of talent there that unfortunately has a lot of impediments to do cutting-edge research. And it seems that resources can be available if one really wants them, so for people coming from these countries it can feel discouraging at times.
