小泉農相は、一般競争入札から随意契約に切り替えて放出する備蓄米について、店頭価格が「5キロ2000円台」となるよう業者側に売り渡す方針を明らかにした。6月初旬にも店頭に並ぶとの見通しも示した。
これから放出されるのは2022、23（令和3、4）年産で、3、4年間倉庫で保管された備蓄米。もとは60キロあたり1万1000～2000円だったのを1万円ほどで売り渡すことになる仕組みを、「倉庫にある間の分、減価償却される」と説明した。
減価償却は、建物や設備などの長期間業務に使う固定資産についてなされる、企業会計上の処理。耐用年数に応じて、購入にかかった費用を数年間に分けて経費として計上する。固定資産が対象のため、売却が目的の商品の在庫には用いられない。
