dude, this spoke to me on a deep level.
between chasing after a toddler and doing whatever household chores I can before the weight of carrying two babies debilitates my back, nostr is not really top of mind.
Especially lately, it seems like my nostr feed is just Bitcoin all the way down with number go up enthusiasm and conference hype.
I don't personally relate to Bitcoin in that way. I don't talk about it. I don't proselytize. Going to a conference or meetup is not a priority for me. And because of that, it can be very hard to stick around nostr.
But I do because there are handful of people, most of them women, who I really love engaging with and seeing what they're up to. Whether it is roya kicking it at the aforementioned conference or Eryn sharing a cute toddler moment with me or yarnlady knitting up another killer project.
I deeply appreciate them for taking time to post on nostr. this note shouting out the women of nostr means a lot.

There’s a trail I walk often - what looks like an old, abandoned golf course. I’ve been coming here for the past three years, mostly barefoot. Families walk here. Kids. Older folks. And lately, some punks on dirt bikes tearing up the hills.
Over time, I’ve noticed the supposed “owner” or caretaker of this land trying to push back against the vandalism. Bollards blocking bridges. “You’re on camera” signs nailed to trees. Chain-link fences lining the property. And now… this medieval contraption buried just below the surface.
I’m guessing it was designed to blow the tires off those dirt bikes. But today, it almost tore through my foot.
It was a thick 2x4, about three feet long, held down by heavy steel stakes. Dozens of massive nails stuck out like fangs, angled for maximum damage. I felt it the instant it touched my skin. It hurt - but luckily, it didn’t pierce deep.
Even with shoes, it could’ve caused real harm.
And all I could think about was: Who builds something like this?
Someone out there is in their garage, probably late at night, constructing this thing - driven by pure malice. Not thinking about the kids. The old folks. Anyone else walking through. Just hellbent on “getting the fuckers.”
That level of tunnel vision… it’s dark. It’s not just anger. It’s a kind of madness. A need for control. A thirst for revenge, no matter the collateral damage.
And that’s the part that gets me. This isn’t just about a booby trap on a trail...
It’s a reminder: the capacity for cruelty still lives among us. To think what happened in Nazi Germany couldn’t happen again is naive. That darkness still exists. Sometimes it’s not in governments - it’s just in one guy, alone in his garage, with a hammer, nails, and a warped sense of justice.

It's worse on monero than on LN. On monero, if I send coins to pubkey X, I know that pubkey has unilateral control over them for about 20 minutes (10 monero blocks) before they can possibly forward them to some other destination. If they do forward them to someone else, I can credibly accuse them of knowingly doing so and I can provide cryptographic proof that they had the coins at some point.
Not so with LN. Thanks to atomic swaps, if I send coins to invoice X, I don't know if the pubkey therein ever has control of those coins. If he is a routing node, the amount of time he has control of those coins is 0. I cannot credibly accuse him of knowingly forwarding those coins to someone else, because he too does not know the destination, and moreover, once the swap was entered into there was no way he could possibly stop it. Once you create an htlc, you no longer control whether it gets settled.
So it's very different. On LN, intermediaries have plausible deniability. On monero, mixers have no plausible deniability.

I like JD Vance and they are doing great things by taking down the barriers to Bitcion development.
But his criticism of Gary Gensler is misguided. A head of the SEC he attacked shitcoins and tried to get exchanges to provide a proof of reserves. He defined bitcoin at a commodity did nothing to stop it. Chokepoint 2.0 was not his work.
Gary Gensler has a deep understanding of technology and finance. He recognises the difference between bitcoin and crypto. Something that Vance and Trump have yet to figure out. We can forgive them though, it took some of us a while!

nostr does seem anicdotally quieter, but, im also not on primal, or the big relays, or have worked to find new follows in a while.
so, the real answer is i dont know. what i do know is these charts dont include japan, dont include much of primal AND have been admittedly completely stuck (broken) for 4+ months at a time..
