Brazilian Michael Pereira, 45, was arrested by the Milan police in northern Italy, suspected of causing the death of his Brazilian partner, nurse Sueli Leal Barbosa, 48, on Thursday, 5th. The report was unable to contact the Brazilian's defense team by the time this text was closed. Sueli died after jumping out of the window on the 5th floor of the building where she lived with the suspect to escape a fire that he allegedly started. According to the police, Pereira was presented to the court and is in custody. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Brazilian Consulate General in Milan, is aware of the case and is following it up through contact with the interested party's family. The Brazilian government's consular activity is based on international and national legislation. Sueli Barbosa worked as a nurse at the Cancer Institute in Milan, in the Lombardy region. She and her partner shared an apartment on the 5th floor of a 7-story building on Abruzzi Avenue, near Loreto Square, in the city center. In the early hours of Thursday morning, the couple's apartment caught fire and the flames spread. Neighbors reported hearing screams and saw the Brazilian woman jump out the window in an attempt to escape the flames. Sueli was taken to a hospital with severe injuries but did not survive. The Brazilian woman had a 10-year-old son from another relationship, but the child was with his father. When the firefighters managed to control the fire and reached the 5th floor, they found that the apartment was locked from the outside. The current partner was found by the police at a nearby bar. He denied the crime, but could not explain why the apartment was locked from the outside, with the woman inside. According to excerpts from the testimony, which the report had access to, Pereira attributed the fire to the woman's habit of burning scented candles in the apartment. A little before the fire started, neighbors heard a strong argument between the couple. The Brazilian admitted to the argument and said that, when he left, he had thrown a cigarette on the floor to provoke the woman. The investigations by the Scientific Police and the Fire Investigation Unit of the Lombardy Fire Department pointed to signs of flammable substances on the apartment floor. The forensic examination was accompanied by Prosecutor Ripamonti, who ordered the Brazilian's arrest. Pereira, who works as a painter in the Italian city, had no criminal record, according to the police. He and Sueli had been together since 2022. A few months ago, the couple had a more heated argument, and, called by the neighbors, the police even intervened, going to the apartment. The precedent was considered in the request for the suspect's arrest, which was accepted by the court.

Brazilian Gas Pipeline Transporter (TBG) announced on Friday, 6th, a reduction in its transportation rates by up to 20%, aiming to meet the market demand for more competitive prices. According to TBG, the measure is the result of a joint effort with the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) for the 2024 Capacity Offer and Contracting Process. In this new phase, there was a reduction in relation to the existing rates - up to 28% for exit capacity rates; and the entry capacity rates also had a significantly reduced percentage increase to 13%. The company also stated that with the resumption of the process, the deadline of June 25 remains, as originally scheduled, for the signing of contracts, which will be valid from July 1 to the end of 2025. For contracts to be signed in 2026, which will cover the next five years, rates will be reevaluated, with values to be approved by ANP.
