Protest in LA tegen arrestaties immigranten, ook burgemeester 'heel boos'
In Los Angeles is geprotesteerd tegen het oppakken en deporteren van immigranten. De protesten braken uit nadat immigratiedienst ICE eerder op de dag ruim 40 mensen had opgepakt. Dat was tijdens een reeks onaangekondigde invallen in het centrum van de stad.
Burgemeester Karen Bass veroordeelde het optreden van ICE tegen immigranten sterk, net als andere functionarissen, schijft The Los Angeles Times. Ze noemen de acties "wreed en onnodig" en zeggen dat ze leiden tot angst binnen de immigrantengemeenschap.
Amerikaanse media melden ook hoe medewerkers van ICE in verschillende delen van Los Angeles mensen aanhielden op straat en geboeid afvoerden. Voorbijgangers protesteerden en filmden met hun telefoons.
'We vechten voor jullie'

Donald Trump beloofde zijn kiezers een streng migratiebeleid en voert die belofte na de verkiezingen ook uit. Hij vindt dat miljoenen illegale immigranten zo snel mogelijk de Verenigde Staten uit moeten. Daarvoor wil het Witte Huis onder andere dat ICE in ieder geval 3000 arrestaties per dag verricht, om zo te kunnen voldoen aan Trumps deportatieplannen.
CBS News meldt dat ICE 2000 aanhoudingen per dag doet in de VS. Tijdens de eerste 100 dagen van Trumps nieuwe termijn lag dat gemiddelde nog op 660 arrestaties. Het laatste jaar dat Biden president was, was datzelfde gemiddelde ongeveer 300 per dag.
Eerder dit jaar vertelden migranten in de stad Aurora, in Colorado, aan de NOS dat ze niet meer naar hun werk gaan of hun kinderen thuishouden van school. Ook willen ze liever niet meer buiten in de rij staan bij de lokale voedselbank.

I'm actually thinking just make it completely open but have some kind of hashed uri so it's just harder to discover, because it's not much of a leak to be open... Not the sexiest solution, but I do think haven needs this

I have an ongoing POC running locally. I haven't found a better way than whitelisting/blacklisting NWC-specific nostr+walletconnect:// URIs or random npubs encoded in them. Either that, or leaving the relay completely open, which is... not great.
The second issue, for basically everyone except wallet/NWC payment service developers, is that there's a lot of back-and-forth between the wallet and the relay. The wallet also needs to be configurable enough to forward events to your specific relay (many aren't). Most won't even allow external tools to query all NWC-specific events, so we can't even use the same subscribe/import trick we're using for kind:1 events. This is why I haven't committed my POC upstream yet. I haven’t found much use for end users, unless the user has full control over their NWC stack. And if they do, they can use your other relay.
Hopefully we can convince more custodial wallet devs to allow users to use their own payment relays in the future. This would make private payment relays much more useful to end users.

Good idea but Unfortunately it is just a very old computer that cannot handle modern websites with lots of media, possibly I also have too many relays setup.
Shipyard takes a long time to load even without a feed and the image uploader doesn't work on that PC. Coracle was my fav client until recently as it has also stopped loading
There is no reason why an extension cannot post to nostr - 'Share-on-Nostr' does exactly this its just not designed for posting notes only sharing links so to use it this way requires work. Still 1000x quicker than most web clients
Nostrudel only took 3 mins to find this post for me to reply to - that's pretty fast by my standards. Thankyou!
