I've heard, but don't know with certainty, that St. Patrick is said to have cast out the snakes because he broke the druids' power there, and Tue snakes may have been the druids' wands. Wands, though, are symbolic of the spine, so it makes a circle, if true.
I didn't know the Hansa brought Christianity or romanization to the north. I only knew of them as being a trade league that might serve as inspiration for future anarchistic endeavors. Kinda ironic that Hansa means "bank" in German, and if there's one thing Christianity **_should_** oppose, it's banking. ( IMO... )
