We live about 15 minute drive from my wife’s parents. In fact they were just here this evening to celebrate my birthday and Mother’s Day.
It was great when our son was younger and they’d watch him.
Now they come to his basketball games and help watch our dog if we are gone for the day or extended time

I think the big fear many have is the in-laws just dropping in without a call.
That has only happened a handful of times and it was usually related to them surprising us with a gift or something.
I think the main point of I have one is this: the older I get the more I realize how important family is.
My wife and son will always trump the relationship with my parents or in-laws…but it’s important to have a quality relationship with them.
It’s messy sometimes, as all relationships can be, but at the end of the day Relationships are worth Reconciling
