yeah, i think the reason why bird and batshit makes a good source of nitrate is that it has sat a long time and the phosphorus has oxidised the ammonia.
most chemical reactions occur in liquid phase, gas and solid are both states where chemical reactions rarely occur, except with extreme temperature, and in solid that basically means supercritical, it's liquid, but it's not liquid, and gas phase reactions generally require extreme pressure, same thing
basically, cut a long story short, chemical reactions mostly take place in liquid phase, except with extreme temperature.
yes, chemistry is cool stuff, i was more interested when i was a fiend for drugs but i'm getting a bit bored of that these days, even though i still would take some if it was racked on the table.
