I think I'm 50/50 on this one. No doubt brownies are amazing, especially when they're made right and are dense, chewy, and gooey (dry brownies are a crime against humanity). But cake has its moments, as well, again as long as it's made right. So, I think it comes down to occasion. Birthdays are the domain of cake. It's one, big thing that's part of the celebration, with its candles and prominent placement in front of the honoree. Brownies are better as "take one" items for events that don't feature a cake. Bottom line, I love both!
