They don't sell your info, but they do share it with the corporate brand office who then does all sorts of things with that information. I worked at Toyota for a while and the dealerships would collect the data, send it on to the corporate office, and the corporate office would share it with their "partners" (other car related businesses who had some tenuous relationship with the brand). Because of whatever contractual relationship they had with these other businesses, the brand could get around the pledge not to sell your info to 3rd parties. It was shady AF.
