the thermal currents you can read about them, such as the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current and the one in the pacific is called El Nino/El Nina and specifically that one has an effect that brings drought and fires to australia with El Nino, and when it flips to El Nina the fires are often in california and mexico and parts of south america
and the outrageously bad level of these fires is purely due to environmentalist regulations being enforced by the california government and the fact they aren't funding the fire department adequately, in addition to preventing them from managing the fuel levels properly (they actually do know how to do it, but they aren't allowed to)
