replies used to be kind:1s, which meant that they would have visibility throughout nostr by default, now that replies to non-kind:1s are kind:111, by default, they are no longer seen, excepts on apps that explicitly support that kind.
That's what I mean by "kind-siloes".
Before, if I read an article and replied to it, people that followed me would see my reply on primal/damus/coracle/etc -- if the client supported kind:30023 or at least NIP-31, the user could see the context of my reply right there; or, worst case, see my reply without the context but at least be aware they were missing something.
With kind:1111, people might follow me but not even see all this other activity in the other stuff that is happening, nor even be aware that there's this whole other bunch of experiences of nostr they haven't discovered.
