I saw a patient in the ED for back and flank pain. Naturally, we ultrasounded the bladder to see if it was emptying. I immediately could tell the bladder was full of cancer. Turns out it was all over the abdomen and flank.
The person had back pain and learned death was near, with family in the room.
Life sucks sometimes, but it's also worthwhile. Health is the most important resource we have. I think about this frequently when I get down. It's pretty fucking depressing without gratitude.
