Modern plumbing is one of the best examples of fiat ruining things. Cheap plastic throw-away BS, the lot of it. The Romans had this figured out aside from the lead piping (from which the modern word plumbing gets its name) millenia ago. WTF is wrong with us? Why do we accept this? Ugh. UGH!
Then, aside from the BS plasticy junk (including pex and every other bit of plastic in all of our water supplies), you have Shortcut Steve and Forgetful Frank screwing you over every step of the way when you have to fix their shoddy work. Here's an example:

It's hard to see, but... The previous installers couldn't be bothered to line up the holes they cut so I had to stand there with a rasp and open the hole up so that the faucet mounting boss could fit and the o-ring would seal properly. Douchebags.
I hate all of this. It's going to be so frigging hard to find non-plastic BS when I build my home, but I'm going to, for sure. It's too important to me.
