I understand you very well. I have also thought a lot about this. I am not religious and cannot believe in anything until it is proven. Most people are not like that though. I still can't understand them, but I have learned to accept them for what they are. While some like you and me seek the truth, most want to feel good. They tend to believe in something just because it makes them feel more significant. Most people believe in different things, not just religions. Even if you offer them evidence that proves otherwise, they won't pay attention because they don't want to destroy their illusion. The bad thing in this case is that these beliefs of theirs can be used for both good and very bad purposes.
