Unless they know about the existence of the archive.
Also, unless you run all your relays yourself, you don't know which will change policies and stop deleting stuff.
One should never rely on events being deleted (i.e. one should assume they might not). If a feature, for practical reasons (not related to privacy) requires deletion, it should happen through some dedicated event, similar to a modification.

Oh, I agree with this. It probably works better on Nostr, though, especially given you don't have to "trust" any archive (notes are signed) and that keeping a relay constantly active for fetching is easier than fetching from, let's say, the Internet Archive every time.
