People leave for likely one of two reasons:
1) The topics (variety, breadth and depth) they get fed on X do not exist here and;
2) When they post they get little to no interaction.
So if they can't find topics they're interested in and also feel like they're isolated and alone, why would they stay? Also, it is painfully obvious that users are lazy and do not want to put in the work to curate a feed so just pushing that talking point at freshers will go over like a fart in church.
