“Gilded Age” was named after Mark Twain book. Wages did increase in some areas of labor. Poverty, child labor, exploitation of immigrant labor, and racism helped fuel most labor to endure horrible working conditions and poverty wages. This was also a time when unions would start growing popular because of working conditions. Innovation and invention did spark a period of investment, however, the largest profiteers of this investment were the ones who already held economic power.
Railroads were subsidized by the State. Railroads were a large puzzle piece to this period of industrialization. This period you have chosen for your example is another achievement of socializing infrastructure/costs and privatizing gains.
Is there another period of time you would like to discuss?
