2025-05-26 13:03:21What is Georgetown like? I did not have a lot of time there, a couple of nights to get a visa done, so I definitely need to come back sometime!
Doing a tour of all the caves is on my mind, especially one that I have an indirect connection to...
It has a lot of rather mysterious buildings, with a degree in old style, Chinese acupuncture I should know more, but just gotta guess on this one... Definitely more Taoist vibes than Confusian!
I know far too little about Malaysia... Islam is of course very important, but the impression I got is that all old, natural traditions are accepted, in a great blend.
Many of the shops have altars like this one outside, and they are used in most cases, with at least some incense lit in the morning.
I did not use any transportation other than my own feet, there was enough going on, and enough interesting things to see & photograph.
This is the main tourist attraction, I found the old, mysterious buildings more interesting, so I didn't really check it out.
If I get around to doing photography workshops here then of course the red lanterns can be used in so many ways to get some good images :-)
Towards the end I came across this old graveyard, a very interesting spot! Clearly it must belong to some community that had expats from not only one Western country, but several.
At that time the distance was quite something... Of course all countries had commercial sail trade going on, its likely that these people were connected with that, one way or another.
I would like to see the inside sometime haha! I bet that there are adventurous types in there, the sort of people who would have something in common with the earlier explorers & emigre merchants.
This sign made me want to extend for a couple of nights, just booking a night blind would be cool, regardless of what that might entail! It did look clean and neat, though.
This one might be quite, rough though! Merchant Hotel, well probably there would be interesting guests to chat to...
I'll end this with this, it gives a good impression of the mood. Its a place where I could have kept going with different types & styles of photography for days on end.
Which also is why I'm thinking its a perfect place for a workshop...
But that might be in the future, this is it for now!
